Israeli Casualties Reported After Series Of Missile And Drone Attacks By Hezbollah (Video)

Lebanon’s Hezbollah attacked on May 8 several Israeli settlements and sites of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), causing material losses and casualties.

In four separate statements, Hezbollah said its fighters struck buildings occupied by Israeli troops in the settlements of Metula, Shlomi, Manara, Hanita and Avivim. In two other statements, the group announced that it had targeted fortified posts in the sites of al-Rahib and al-Malikiyah using guided missiles then shelled troops and surveillance equipment of the IDF there.

Hezbollah said in two more statements that it launched a suicide drone at a newly-established headquarters of the IDF’s Western Brigade near the settlement of Yaara and struck the headquarters of the 91st Division in Pranit barracks with a Burkan heavy improvised rocket. In another statement, the group announced that it fired rockets at the al-Samaqa site.

The attacks were carried out in support of the Palestinian people and resistance in the Gaza Strip and as a response to recent Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon, Hezbollah noted in its statements.

Hebrew media reported a number of casualties in Manara, Avivim and al-Malikiyah with some being evacuated by helicopter to a military hospital in the northern Israeli city of Afula. It also acknowledged that the IDF failed to intercept the drone Hezbollah launched at Yaara.

In response to the attacks, the IDF said that its fighter jets and artillery struck more than 20 Hezbollah targets in the town of Ramyeh in southern Lebanon. The targets included buildings used by the group and additional infrastructure, according to the IDF, which also said that it identified secondary blasts after the strikes, indicating that the sites were used to store ammunition.

Additional Hezbollah sites were struck in the towns of Marwahin and Kafr Kila, which are also located in southern Lebanon, the IDF added.

Hezbollah didn’t announce any losses after the Israeli strikes and there were no reports of civilian casualties in Lebanese media.

The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out after the start of the war in Gaza last October, with Hezbollah and its allies carrying out attacks in support of the Strip.

Hezbollah intensified its attacks on Israel earlier this week after the IDF launched a ground operation in the area of Rafah in southern Gaza, where more than 1,4 million Palestinains have been taking shelter.

So far, the border clashes have resulted in nine civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least 13 IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 400 people have been killed, including 272 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 70 civilians.
