Israeli drones struck on July 21 Yemen’s al-Hodeida port, which is held by the Houthis (Ansar Allah), in response to the group’s recent attacks.
In a statement, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said that the strikes destroyed “military infrastructure of the Houthi terror regime” at the Red Sea port, after attempts were made by the Houthis to repair areas previously targeted by Israel in response to missile and drone attacks.
The targets hit in al-Hodeida included “engineering equipment working to restore port infrastructure, fuel tanks, and vessels used for military activity and [attacks] against the State of Israel and ships in the maritime area near the port,” the military added.
Commenting on the strikes, Defense Minister Israel Katz said that the IDF was “forcefully enforcing any attempt to restore the previously attacked terror infrastructure.”
The “fate of Yemen will be the same as Tehran,” the minister vowed, referring to Israel’s 12-day war against Iran last month.
“The Houthis will pay a heavy price for launching missiles at the State of Israel. We will continue to act at any time and in any place to defend the State of Israel,” he added.
This was the thirteenth time that Israel has attacked Yemen, located some 1,800 kilometers away, since the Houthis began launching attacks in response to the war in the Gaza Strip late in 2023.
Israeli military officials told The Times of Israel that unlike previous attacks, which involved dozens of fighter jets and support aircraft of the Israeli Air Force or warships of the Israeli Navy, the latest strikes were carried out by drones. This shows that the IDF is exploring less costly ways to strike the Houthis, possibly in preparation to step up the rate of attacks on Yemen.
Houthi-affiliated media said that the latest strikes on al-Hodeida hit targets which were struck before. No casualties were reported.
The response of the Houthis came quickly, with the group announcing an attack with five suicide drones on Ben Guiron Airport, Tel Aviv, Eilat, Ramon Airport and Ashdod. No interceptions or impacts were reported by Hebrew media.

With God’s help, it has succeeded in confronting it and it remains steadfast in its confrontation. With trust in God, it is prepared to confront any hostile movements in the coming period aimed at preventing it from fulfilling its religious, moral, and humanitarian duty toward the oppressed Palestinian people,” Houthi spokesman Brig. All in all, the latest Israeli strikes have clearly failed to deter the Houthis, like the ones before. This does not mean, however, that Israel will take a step back.
