On February 8th, Israeli security forces carried out an operation in the West Bank city of Nablus. Three Palestinian gunmen who were allegedly responsible for recent shooting attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians were killed.
The Israel Defense Forces and the Yamam counter terrorism unit conducted a special operation in in Nablus’s al-Makhfiya neighborhood, in the territory controlled by the Palestinian Authority. They blocked the road to a civilian car and shot three armed militants at point-blank range.
According to the joint statement by the Shin Bet security service, the Israeli military and the Border Police, a terrorist cell from the Nablus area was eliminated. Militants were responsible for a series of shooting attacks against the Israel Defense Forces and Israeli civilians in the area in recent weeks.
Two M-16 rifles were confiscated from the car.
The militants were members of the military wing of the Fatah party, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.
The gunmen were identified as Ashraf al-Mubsalit, Adham Mabrouk and Muhammad al-Dakhil.
According to local reports, the group vowed revenge for its members’ deaths.
“The blood of [our] martyrs will not be wasted, and the response will come, God willing, and blood will be met with blood,” the terror group said in a statement.
The Palestinian Authority cabinet called for an international investigation of the operation. In his turn, Nablus Governor called for a general strike across the governorate to mourn the victims.
