Late on April 29, two Palestinian gunmen shot and killed a security guard at the entrance of a Jewish settlement in the occupied West Bank.
In a statement, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said that the gunmen arrived at the Ariel settlement entrance and shot the guard in his post before fleeing the scene. A second guard who was present in the entrance at the time of the attack was not wounded.
The military launched a pursuit of the two gunmen in the West Bank. On April 30 morning, a burnt vehicle that was likely used by the gunmen was found in the West Bank.
The al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, a coalition of armed groups affiliated with the Palestinian Authority’s ruling Fatah party, claimed responsibility for the attack.
“We take responsibility for the heroic operation in Ariel that resulted in the death of a Zionist officer. All this activity is a response to the Israeli aggression in Jerusalem,” a masked man of the faction said in a video message.
The Hamas Movement, the de-facto ruler of the Gaza Strip, praised the attack in Ariel, calling it a “heroic operation” and saying that it was a “natural response to the crimes of the occupation and its settlers.”
Israel stepped up its security measures in Jerusalem and the West Bank in the last few weeks. Dozens of Palestinians were killed or wounded as a result of these measures. Just a few hours before the attack in Ariel, Israeli troops shot and killed a 27-year-old Palestinian man in the village of Azoun village in the West Bank.
Jerusalem and the West Bank will likely experience more escalation in the upcoming few weeks. Tensions may spread again to the Gaza Strip.
England set it up to be a useful stage for Middle Eastern unrest and division. Divide from within to conquer from without.
Beautiful. One less vermin in the world.
