Israeli fighter jets struck several border crossings and land routes between Syria and Lebanon used to transfer weapons to Hezbollah over the night of October 5 and 6, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced on December 6.
The strikes targeted the Arida Crossing between northern Lebanon and Syria’s Tartus governorate, as well as several routes in the al-Qusayr area in Homs governorate. According to the official Syrian Arab News Agency, the Arida Crossing was out of service following the strikes.
In a statement, the IDF said that the strikes were part of a campaign against Hezbollah’s Unit 4400, which is tasked with delivering weapons from Iran and its allies to Lebanon.
The strikes came as militants led by al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham were advancing in Homs and approaching the main roads leading to both Arida and al-Qusayr. Israel continued to launch attacks against Syria amid the militants’ offensive.
Hebrew media revealed on December 5 that Israeli strikes hit advanced weapons of the Syrian military in southeastern Aleppo earlier in the week, allegedly to prevent them from falling into the hands of the militants.
Commenting on the events in Syria, Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem said on December 5 that his group would be by Damascus’s side amid the offensive.
In a televised address, Qassem denounced “terrorist groups” who want to “destroy Syria again… to bring down the regime” and “create chaos.”
“They will not be able to achieve their goals despite what they have done in past days, and we as Hezbollah will be by Syria’s side in thwarting the goals of this aggression as much as we can,” the Lebanese leader said.
On the same day, an Israeli official told The Times of Israel that Israel’s interest in the renewed fighting in Syria was “that they continue fighting one another.”
“It’s entirely clear to us that one side are Salafi jihadists and the other side is Iran and Hezbollah,” the official continued. “We want them to weaken one another.”
The official stressed that Israel is not getting involved on either side. “We are prepared for any scenario, and we will act accordingly.”

those strikes were to kill a group of few hundred hezbollah soldiers who were on their way to fight on syrian army side.
keep dreaming hezbollah knows exactly how to get into syria without being discovered . the israeli terrorists simply bomb the border because they believe that the weapons will be delivered to hezbollah from there. the israeli terrorists have been bombing the same places for decades and still hezbollah fills their warehouses full of weapons.
like the turkish syrian border should have been bombed in 2012
i guess you are on the side of the terrorists, right shlomo? is it coffee break soon at the unit 8200? hmmm?
i like syria to be unified parliamentary democracy. i want all isis, hts, assad and sdf gone. i support two state solution and palestine and i am totally against israeli occupation. i am socialist humanist. now tell me, which side am i on?
if you don’t know what chance does anyone else have, it’s clear to me which side i am on either the western backed head hacking army and israel or the secular government of assad, it’s not rocket science.
freemason bullshitter
meanwhile isrel have been unable to take villages in south lebanon and the offensive was a failure
jewhadist will now take full control over syria in few days . too little to late for russia and iran !
33 years after the collapse of the ussr, comes the collapse of syria. to this day russia still hasn’t fully recovered, how long it will for the middle east, now that israel reigns supreme? will the yoke of the west always oppress the global south ?
if that happens it won’t be long before the israelis invade syria and say look we have a terror problem on our border we have to stop it, then they will colonize part of syria for greater israel.
then suddenly iran enters the chat again and offers guns to the syrian rebels it used to be opposing. the problem with all israel’s plans is that they ultimately just make its own strategic situation worse. nobody knows what turkey plans to do once it and its own groups share a border with israel, the claims of erdogan being a zionist don’t hold up
when did that scumbag ever fight israel? when did his terrorists ever fight israel, why he attacked syria is beyond understanding unless he wants to occupy part of it.
the jews are at it again, low hanging fruits suits the jews since adequate resistance/defence reveals the jews as inept and totally useless. however the jews wet dream, the greater israel project, won’t ever come to fruition. they will be gone before then, never to be missed.
surprised we haven’t seen israeli settlers in southern syria already. they shall make for good neighbours with the islamic state of syria.
thats when they will attack the islamists after they served their purpose those jihadis are some of the most stupid people ever.
be probably good step to allow educated and skilled syrians free work visas leading to residency, the syrian arab republic is looking a failed state.
failed state, now i wonder how that happened?
the allies are ripping syria apart…heheheh
iran ought to start its long awaited attack on the jews with drones and its serious missiles known to penetrate the iron dome forcing the jews into a defensive-position and forced to abandon its attack on syria. that’s the way to get some order in the me and to ensure the demise of the friggin jews for good. end their illegal occupation of palestine by the jews. that’s what the world will appreciate!
all of russia’s allies are in grave danger if the kremlin dwarf remains in power. china, in particular, should use its influence over the russian elite to replace him. of course, russia’s power and prestige are also in grave danger.
russia is a democracy not some banana republic.
syria called israel and said : help me defeat hts , if you help me as israeli will give you golan. but israel rejected.
