Early on February 10, a series of Israeli strikes hit several positions on the outskirts of the Syrian capital, Damascus, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.
The strikes came from the direction of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, the state-run news agency reported, citing an unnamed military official. It added that air defenses shot down some and those that landed resulted in “some material losses.”
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that a building in the village of Qura Al-Assad in the western outskirts of Damascus was hit, adding that three people were killed. These claims are yet to be verified. The London-based monitoring group published false information with regard to Israeli attacks on Syria on numerous occasions in the past.
Just hours before the attack, Syrian air defenses shot down two drones which came from the direction of the Golan Heights over the western outskirts of Damascus.
Israel has significantly escalated its attacks on Syria since the outbreak of the war in the Gaza Strip, targeting mainly sites and personnel of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and affiliated forces but also causing many civilian casualties.
On February 2, an IRGC advisor was killed in Israeli strikes that targeted the southern outskirts of Damascus. Later on February 6, seven people, including civilians, were killed and at least 13 others were wounded when a series of Israeli strikes hit the central governorate of Homs.
In order to avoid a dangerous confrontation, war-torn Syria has largely refrained from responding to Israel’s repeated attacks, so far.
