Early on July 1, Israeli warplanes carried out a series of airstrike on several military targets in the Syrian capital of Damascus and in the central governorate of Homs.
The Syrian Arab Air Defense Forces (SyAAF) intercepted several Israeli missiles over Damascus and south of Homs. However, most of the missiles hit their targets.
According to pro-government sources, military positions in the districts of al-Mazzeh, al-Dimass and Jomrayah north and northwest of Damascus, as well as three bases in the outskirt of the city of Homs were hit.
One of the Israeli missiles hit a civilian area in the district of Sahnaya west of Damascus. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said that 4 civilians, including a 3-month old baby, were killed as a result. 22 other civilians, mostly women and children, were injured.
This was the first time an Israeli strike on Syria led to civilian casualties. This is a dangerous development that may force Damascus to rethink its strategy towards Israel.
The Israeli strike was one of the biggest this year, which confirms that Tel Aviv is not only determined to go on with its attacks on Syria, but also to step-up their scale and intensity.

Anyway you slice it, S-300’s are flawed and obsolete against modern militaries. They would work better against Algerian air force or against North Korean air force. Not against Israel. Syria would need Russia’s laser defense systems to augment the S-300 or else would flat out need the S-400 systems.

For S300 to deterrent an attack it have to shot planes in Israel or Lebanon. Homs, and Beirut are 20 km away from the Lebanese borders, which in air-force terms are no distance and all, and the Syrian anti-mountains give cover to Israeli planes from radars once they open fire.
There had to be some big time negotiation between the warring sides for all that’s been happening. Or is this just the first few shots before the fireworks begin. Mass Israeli strike, PMU and Hezbollah quietly withdrawing, US cruise missile strike in Idlib, etc. Normally, both sides retaliate like they’ve playing tennis.

S-300 is not able to protect civilians or objects against modern militaries. The S-400 system or Russia’s laser defense systems would be needed to defend against Israels attacks. S-300 would work better against say… the North Korean air force or against Algeria. Not against Israel or Italy or USA. Israel has 0 fear of any S-300 on earth. But the S-400 is likely a different story. The Russians themselves know that the Russian base in Syria cannot be protected by S-300, thus the Russians are under the S-400 has Russian’s are smart enough to know that their own simulations show S-300 vulnerable to known Israeli tech.
