An Israeli tank commander briefly lost his Merkava 4 battle tank while he was in the bathroom, the Israeli media reported on January 15.
It appeared that the battle tank rolled 600 meters down a hill out of control and crossed a main highway in southern Israel after the crew fell asleep inside it. The incident reportedly took place over the past week, during a tank commanders course near the Armored Corps training base.
“The crew commander had gotten out of the tank to go to the bathroom, and when he returned he saw that his Merkava 4 tank was missing. It was located only after a few minutes, on the other side of Route 40,” Haaretz reports.
A preliminary investigation of the incident found that the crew of combat soldiers had fallen asleep and didn’t notice the tank was rolling away.
“This is an unusual safety incident that will be investigated and from which lessons will be learned in order to prevent the recurrence of similar cases in the future,” the military said in a statement on the issue.
Security incidents involving Israeli soldiers occur on a cosntant basis. Some of them even cause casualties. For example in April, one soldier was killed and three others were injured when a shell caught on fire inside a tank along the Egyptian border.

And Yes, soldiers has to sleep and regain too. Good plans for warfare makes the first line of soldiers being replaced by a semilar after some days and if they have – a third group. The the first group has regained and also has replementts for lost soldiers, fuel, food, water and ammo.
Nothing abnormal in people sleeps in tanks as well. They simply have to sooner or later.
And Israelians do have accidents as this one too. Its rapported from all over the world and in the civile life too. People do get tired even being busdrivers in mountains and as pilots in airplanes.
Sometimes the rules for it is not kept. Our police see many big trucks, where the drivers are almost a sleep or falls a sleep even they have a timer telling them to rest 11 hours and sleep 7-8 and eat well and visit a toilet having time for it. And why: Well as for the soldiers, the plans makes not enough space for it as well as You have stgupidists not even putting needed guards out against RPGs.

The Israeli IDF attacked Lebanon with 75,000 troops and two armored battalions against roughly 4500 Hezbollah regulars , not their special forces or commandos, who were stationed north of the Litani Line in Lebanon. The Israeli’s had 44 Merkava’s totally destroyed, out of a total of 400 involved, yet they couldn’t capture not even one border village and hold it. Not even the highly touted IDF Golani Brigades could make any headway at all, as they were effectively surrounded and came very close to annihilation. Now imagine if Hezbollah had the brunt, special forces and its commandos and special units at the border at the time. It would have been a total rout of the IDF all the way to Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
