On July 12, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems unveiled a new 5th generation air-launched long-range missile that can be used to destroy a variety of targets up to 300 kilometers away.
In a statement, Rafael said that the missile, dubbed “Ice Breaker,” is an “aerial force multiplier, designed to overcome the modern warfare arena challenges”. According to the company, the missile, which make its public debut at the July 18-22 Farnborough Airshow, is part of a missile family that includes the Sea Breaker that was unveiled last year.
Sea Breaker serves as the naval and land-based version of the Ice Breaker. The missile is based on a shared foundation of the company’s SPIKE NLOS missile SPICE glide bomb.

The missile features an advanced imaging infra-red seeker, ideal for stationary or moving land and maritime target engagement. It is also equipped with a datalink that supports real-time man-in-the-loop decision-making and tactical updates and also has a mid-flight abort capability and battle damage assessment capabilities for operators to see the target after firing the missile. The missile is armed with a 113 kg penetration, blast and fragmentation warhead.
Ice Breaker, which flies at high subsonic speed, is said to be capable of low trajectories, feature low-observable qualities, or stealth technology.
Rafale said that Ice Breaker was designed to provide “surgical, pinpoint precision strike capabilities” from standoff ranges. The company claims that the missile is “resilient to electronic countermeasures and is fully operational in GNSS-denied arenas”.
“Employing RAFAEL’s unique combat-proven artificial intelligence technology, Ice Breaker performs deep-learning and big data-based scene-matching, enabling Automatic Target Acquisition (ATA) and Automatic Target Recognition (ATR),” the company said.
According to Rafale, Ice Breaker, which weighs just 350 kg, can be launched from a variety of fighter jets, light aircraft and helicopters.
Israel has been developing air-launched, stand-off, precision-guided weapon systems since the 80s. These systems allow Israeli fighter jet to destroy high-value targets in advanced Anti-Access/Area Denial (A2/AD) arenas from a safe distance.

Its already obsolete. It can’t work in any area with a strong air defense only swarms of hypersonic missiles can get through. Its for use against countries with a relatively weak air defence like Syria, Venezuela etrc .

The article mixes up two different companies. Rafale and Rafael are both MIC companies, but different animals. One is French and the other is Israeli.
