On September 1, Hezbollah carried out an anti-tank guided missile strike on Israel’s Wolf armoured personnel carrier near Avivim in Upper Galilee. Hezbollah says that the vehicle was destroyed and several Israeli soldiers were killed or injured. Israel denies any casualties.

The Wolf was hit by 2 different Kornet missile from 2 different angles, using the new technic “double tap” using 2 missiles quickly to bypass air defenses in place. I can affirm that following those missiles, no one survived inside that armored Wolf. Everyone was killed. According to hezbollah, the target was the general of the North region, as they were waiting on their target before firing. Great intelligence if that ends to be true from Hezbollah.

2 ATGM’s of type Kornet were fired one from 1.6 km and the other from 4km distance. Both striked the back and side of the Wolf armored vehicle. Reminder even the Merkava cannot stand a Kornet missile from the back, as the 2006 conflict against Lebanon proved. 2 Kornets on the back of the Wolf, means sure kill!

My assumption is that Israel implemented multiple counter measures, and that the smoke screen is just part of it. Don’t get me wrong, Israel does so much evil. I am not taking there side at all here. It doesn’t contain any after detonation video or stills showing the vehicle after detonation. Hezbollah is hiding something. From the looks of the CCTV video it’s that both missiles missed their target completely.
The only fire and forget Kornets are some of the post 2012 Russian ones. All the others require skilled operators. Particularly at the distance involved in these shots at a moving target. It looks like they both missed.

The armored truck had traveled about 1 vehicle length by this time towards the detonation. The first missile clearly missed, as did the second which detonated a considerable distance behind the vehicle.

Tap on play back speed and choose .25 and watch the video in slow motion. Both misses are clear as day. The first missile detonated to the left front of the vehicle and the second detonation is to the right rear of the vehicle. Case closed, you lose.

I’ve looked at the Hezbollah video and am skeptical. The first missile missed and detonated in front of the vehicle somewhere. Where the second missile detonated is undetermined. I haven’t seen anyone debunk this video. And I fact checked it. The only thing that I haven’t been able to confirm is where the gate is. It should be visible from the sat imaging. But I haven’t located it yet. But it’s not a real big gate. So it may be a resolution issue.

The video shows an HE explosion and the APC drive by with the cloud dissapating in the same place. It’s far more evidence of the vehicle’s condition than anything that Hezbollah provided, which was nothing. In a court of law it would be both admissible and superior evidence.

I too am pretty sceptical. On both sides versions.
Israel first abandons the border in 1 4-5 KM distance, and then a top IDF general should drive right on the border next to Hezbollah positions? Dont make sense at all. And Hezbollah cut that video right after the impact. They could have shown the aftermath, especially from the other positions on that road. In this situations of psychological warfare one needs to provide proof, and hezbollah sure know that. And when Israeli soldiers die, just like US soldiers, sooner or later the Army has to disclose their death, even though they take some days for that. The death would have leaked into Israeli media by now anyway i fear. The Wolf is a very good APC/MRAP, and fatally hitting it with an ATGM at that target speed is pretty damn hard. That seems why Hezbollah planed to double tap it with a second ATGM, which clearly did not hit. Missing with the second ATGM may prove to be a reason if it is later confirmed that no IDF died. Nasrallah only threatend one retaliation, but it seems their self imposed time window for the attack was to short, which seems to have let to pressure to find a target after IDF removed all their troops on the border. A hint that the strike was not successfull may be that now Hezbollah plans to down a drone, even though Nasrallah first only promised one retaliation. Sadly we will likely have to wait quite some time to get to the truth, if we ever hear it at all. Both sides always lie and deny as part of their strategy.

I’m guessing that it was an older model missile where the operators have to fly it all of the way to target. Rather than the newer computerized fire and forget version. The manual missiles are ok at shorter ranges. But long shots are more difficult. Especially against a moving target.
Once the first one missed and detonated. The vehicle drove into the cloud making it invisible to the second missile operator. Making a difficult shot a pot shot.
There are fire and forget versions available. And the next time the crew may not be so lucky.
