The Russian military’s Sever (North) Group of Forces inflicted heavy losses on several Ukrainian formations while repelling nearly a dozen counter-attacks in the direction of Kursk, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on November 10.
In its daily briefing, the ministry said that Ukraine’s 21st, 22nd, 41st, 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, 112th and 129th territorial defense brigades took losses near the settlements of Daryino, Leonidovo, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Novoivanovka, and Plyokhovo.
It also said that more than 11 counter-attacks by Kiev forces were repelled near the settlements of Daryino, Novaya Sorochina, Zeleny Shlyakh, and Novoivanovka.
“The AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses amounted to up to 90 troops killed and wounded, three tanks, three infantry fighting vehicles, four armored fighting vehicles, and three motor vehicles. Three AFU servicemen surrendered,” the ministry added.
Furthermore, the ministry announced that Russian air and artillery strikes hit gatherings of the 21st, 22nd, 47th, 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 36th Marine Brigade, 112th, 117th, 118th, 129th territorial defense brigades, and 17th National Guard Brigade.
The gatherings were targeted near the settlements of Bogdanovka, Guyevo, Daryino, Zeleny Shlyakh, Kolmakov, Kruglenkoye, Kurilovka, Lebedevka, Leonidovo, Martynovka, Makhovka, Mikhaylovka, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Novaya Sorochina, Novoivanovka, Plyokhovo, Sverdlikovo, Staraya Sorochina, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye.
Other strikes targeted the reserves of the 22nd, 41st mechanized brigades, 95th Air Assault Brigade, 103rd, 129th territorial defense brigades, and 1st National Guard Brigade near the settlements of Basovka, Belovody, Vodolagi, Zhuravka, and Pavlovka in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, according to the ministry.
“Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 290 troops, five tanks, three infantry fighting vehicles, seven armored fighting vehicles, three mortars, one electronic warfare station, and 10 motor vehicles. Three AFU servicemen surrendered,” the ministry detailed in its briefing.
Kiev forces launched a surprise attack from Sumy into Kursk last August, relying mainly on foreign mercenaries and Western-made weapons.
Since the start of the attack, at least 56 Russian civilians have been killed and more than 266 others have been wounded. Moreover, the attack displaced more than 144,000 civilians. The fate of some 2,000 others who lived in areas attacked by Kiev forces remain unknown.
The Russian military launched a counter-attack in Kursk in September. Nearly half of the settlements initially occupied by Ukrainian troops have been already liberated.
According to the Russian MoD, since the start of the battle in Kursk Kiev forces have lost 31,090 troops, 194 tanks, 126 infantry fighting vehicles, 107 armored personnel carriers, 1,102 armored fighting vehicles, 843 motor vehicles, 262 artillery guns, 40 launchers, including 11 American-made HIMARS and six MLRS systems, 11 air defense systems, seven transport-loading vehicles, 62 electronic warfare stations, 13 counter-battery radars, four aerial radars, 26 engineering vehicles, including 13 counter obstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle, five armored recovery vehicle, and one command post vehicle.
