Kiev forces attacked on June 26 the radiation control station of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in the nearby settlement of Velikaya Znamenka, the plant said in a press release posted to its Telegram channel.
“The radiation control station in Velikaya Znamenka was completely destroyed following a Ukrainian artillery strike,” the press release reads.
Zaporozhye NPP noted that it carried out a number of compensatory measures to control the radiation situation in the area of the plant site after the attack.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Federal Medical-Biological Agency told reporters that background radiation in Energodar where the nuclear facility is located was normal.

The Russian military took control of the Zaporozhye NPP in the very first days of the special military operation in Ukraine, which began in 2022. After Zaporizhzhia voted in favor of becoming a Russian region in September of that year, the ownership of the NPP passed to Rosatom.
Kiev forces have been launching regular attacks against the nuclear facility, mainly using Western-made weapons like precision-guided missiles and suicide drones, for the last two years.
Last week, a Ukrainian attack on the Raduga substation in Zaporozhye led to a black out at some of the facilities of the NPP.
The repeated Ukrainian attacks on the Zaporizhzhia NPP can only be described as nuclear blackmail. Kiev believes that it could force Russia to make concessions by threatening to cause a nuclear disaster at the plant. Its allies appear to be supportive of this dangerous plan.
