Kiev forces have failed to advance in several directions across the frontline, according to the September 22 briefing of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
In the Donetsk direction, the Russian Yug Group of Forces repelled four Ukrainian attacks close to Vodyanoye and Maryinka.
Up to 200 Ukrainian troops were killed or wounded during the fighting in this direction, the ministry said, adding that two infantry fighting vehicles and three motor vehicles were destroyed. One American-made M777 towed howitzer, one Giatsint-B towed howitzer and one American-made AN/TPQ-36 counter-battery radar were also destroyed by counter-battery fire.
In the Krasny Liman direction, the Russian Tsentr Group of Force repelled two attacks by the 12th Special Forces and 5th Territorial Defense brigades of Kiev forces close to Grigorovka and the Serebryansky forestry.
The ministry said that 30 Ukrainian troops, three armored fighting vehicles, two pickup trucks and two D-30 towed howitzers were neutralized in this direction.
In the Zaporozhye direction, several Ukrainian gatherings of manpower and equipment were targeted by Russian forces near Rabotino and Verbovoye. The strikes neutralized 20 Ukrainian troops, two armored fighting vehicles and two motor vehicles, the ministry said.
Moreover, one American-made M777 towed howitzer, one Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer and three D-30 towed howitzers were destroyed by counter-battery fire.
In the South Donetsk direction, the Russian Vostok Group of Forces targeted several gatherings of Kiev forces near Staromayorskoye, Novodonetskoye and Priyutnoye.
Up to 110 Ukrainian personnel, two armored fighting vehicles and three pick-up trucks were neutralized during the fighting in this direction, according to the ministry. In addition, an ammunition depot of the 1st Tank Brigade was hit close to Zelenyi Gai
Meanwhile in the Kupyansk direction, the Russian Zapad Group of Forces targeted Ukrainian positions near Artyomovka, Sinkovka, Berestovoye and Ivanovka.
According to the ministry, Ukrainian losses in this direction amounted to 20 troops, two German-made Leopard-2 tanks and three motor vehicles.
In addition, one Polish-made Krab self-propelled howitzers, one German-made Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzer, two Msta-B towed howitzers, one D-30 towed howitzer and one Rapira anti-tank gun were destroyed by counter-battery fire.
An ammunition depot of Ukraine’s 113rd Territorial Defence Brigade was also targeted and destroyed in the outskirts of Liptsy.
In the Kherson direction, Kiev forces lost 80 troops, seven motor vehicles and one D-30 towed howitzer to Russian military fire.
The Russian MoD also provided the following details during its briefing:
Operational-Tactical and Army aviation, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have engaged AFU manpower and hardware in 124 areas during the day.
P-18, ST-68 and PRV-16 radars for detecting and tracking air targets were destroyed near Novopetrovka (Kherson region).
Five command posts of the AFU’s 24th, 28th and 67th Mechanized, 100th Territorial Defence brigades and 15th National Guard Regiment were hit near Serebryanka, Druzhba and Dyleyevka (Donetsk People’s Republic).
Air defense systems have intercepted 10 HIMARS MLRS projectiles during the day.
Moreover, 15 unmanned aerial vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were shot down near Verkhnekamenka, Lisichansk (Lugansk People’s Republic), Staromikhailovka, Gorlovka (Donetsk People’s Republic), Ocheretovatoye, Chistopolye (Zaporozhye region) and Novaya Kakhovka (Kherson region).
In total, 475 airplanes and 249 helicopters, 7,035 unmanned aerial vehicles, 438 air defense missile systems, 12,027 tanks and other armored fighting vehicles, 1,154 combat vehicles equipped with MLRS, 6,488 field artillery cannons and mortars, as well as 13,301 units of special military equipment have been destroyed during the special military operation.
In addition, Russian news sources shared videos showing recent strikes by attack helicopters, FPV suicide drones and Lancet loitering munitions against equipment of Kiev forces in different directions.
Despite sustained heavy losses, Kiev forces are yet to make any meaningful gains in any direction. As winter approaches, the Ukrainian counteroffensive appears to be heading to complete failure. If this happens, Russia could launch its own counteroffensive.
