On July 26, Kiev forces launched a large-scale attack on the towns of Rabotino and Verbovoye in the Zaporozhye direction.
A strike force with more than 80 main battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers spearheaded the attack, Russian sources said, describing it as a last ditch effort by Kiev to advance in this direction. Unlike previous attacks, the Ukrainian Air Force provided close air support for the force, at least at the start.
After a fast initial push, the force was engaged by Russian forces. Ukrainian vehicles were targeted with artillery and rocket fire as well as with anti-tank guided missiles. Russian tanks also opened fire at the force.
In addition, Russian fighter jets and attack helicopters launched a series of strikes against the force, effectively halting its advance.
Video footage from the battlefield in Zaporozhye showed two destroyed American-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and a damaged T-72 tank of Kiev forces. Russian sources said that at least 25 vehicles were destroyed or damaged, including a German-made Leopard 2 tank and seven Bradleys.
The attack is the most recent in a series of attempts by Kiev forces to capture Rabotino and Verbovoye, key strongholds of the Russian military.
Last week, Kiev forces sustained catastrophic losses while attempting to advance in this direction. More than a dozen Leopard 2 tanks and Bradley vehicles were destroyed in the outskirts of Rabotino and Verbovoye. Dozens of troops were also killed or wounded.
The new large-scale attack is likely meant to distract attention from the recent advance by the Russian military in the Krasny Liman direction.
The Russian military will likely repel the attack before the end of the day. The futile attempts to capture Rabotino and Verbovoye highlight the failure of Ukraine’s counteroffensive, which began more than seven weeks ago. So far, Kiev forces have sustained heavy losses, failed to make any meaningful gains on the ground and even lost some territory.

they are constantly supplied with new aircraft from the massive soviet stockpile left behind in former ussr states. a reminder that low flying aircraft are also difficult to shoot down, though they are unable to operate effectively at those low altitudes and thus limited in their support. also a reminder that ukraine has lost several aircraft in thw last few weeks and is hesitant to use them close to the front or within effectively range of russian aa systems.

“to rebuild their air force” is exxageration. they get constantly the rests of the former sovjet weapons from the “brother folks” , smuggled across the borders or flying by low attitudes. land on some improvised air fields and start to mostly kamikaze missions. after 24.2.2022 the ukrainian air force was mostly destroyed but yes , now they are still alive , to a small extent , thanks to western support.

the leopard 2 is not covering itself in glory in war. it’s handling in syria could be excused by being older models badly handled, but these are supposed to be the upgraded model in the hands of troops trained to use them in combined arms warfare. the americans and british are wise to keep their tanks as far in the ukrainian rear as possible.
leo2a6 and up is one of the best tanks in the world, if not the best at actual a7-a8 level, as long as the t14 armata dont enter serial production. but even the best of th best has a hard time in the soft grounds of ukraine, and without a proper air defence and close air support.
