Russian air defenses had intercepted 37 Ukrainian rockets and suicide drones over Belgorod and two other Russian regions, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on May 11.
“Over the past night, a number of attempts by the Kiev regime to carry out terrorist attacks on Russian territory using the [Czech-made] RM-70 Vampire multiple launch rocket system and aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles were thwarted,” the ministry said in a statement. “Air defense forces on duty destroyed 21 projectiles and nine UAVs over the Belgorod Region, and seven UAVs were intercepted and destroyed over the Kursk and Volgograd regions,” it specified.
Eight civilians were wounded in Belgorod, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on his Telegram channel. The governor also reported damage to civilian properties in the region.
Ukraine intensified rocket and drone attacks on Belgorod and neighboring regions in recent months, wounding or killing dozens of Russian civilians. Kiev forces and their mercenaries even launched several cross-border raids into the region in March.
The main aim of these repeated Ukrainian attacks is apparently to make up for the never ending failures of Kiev forces on the battlefield.
The Russian military resumed large-scale group strikes against military and energy infrastructure in Ukraine last March in response to these attacks. Despite inflicting heavy damage, this was not enough to deter the Kiev regime. Thus, the Russian military launched earlier this week a ground operation in the Kharkiv region, the source of most recent attacks on Belgorode.
The aim of the ongoing operation in Kharkiv is reportedly to establish a safe zone inside Ukrainian territory. The Russian military has already captured several settlements along the border.

i beg to differ. slovenian specialness and croatian and bosnian specialness were all inculcated by the americans. the us decided in 1980 that yugoslavia would have to go. kosovo was literally a cia narco-terrorist station that allowed the americans an opportunity to build camp bondsteel and sit on the energy corridors of southern europe. donbas just happened to be full of people who voted wrong in 2004 and 2010 and had to be corrected by the state.
i agree with you. but for the simple minds of western foreign policy think, one must make simplistic arguments. if slovenia had the right (as the west argues) to secede extraconstitutionally from yugo sans referendum, then crimea as an autonomous republic with a referendum and after an illegal coup d’etat kiev certainly did and even more so. if a kosovo run by mafia warlords seceded from serbia, then certainly, again after a coup d’etat and referendum, the donbass most certainly could.
