Kiev forces continue to sustain heavy human and material losses in the Kursk direction, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
In its September 28 briefing, the ministry said that the Sever Group of Forces inflicted losses on Ukraine’s 21st, 22nd, 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 1st National Guard Brigade, 36th Marine Brigade and the 103rd Territorial Defence Brigade near the settlements of Lyubimovka, Daryino, Novy Put, Nikolayevo-Daryino and Plekhovo.
It also announced that four Ukrainian attacks were repelled close to the settlement of Lyubimovka and several counter-attacks were thwarted near the settlements of Kremyanoye, Kamyshevka and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye.
“As a result, the AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses amounted to up to 40 troops killed and wounded,” the ministry detailed in its briefing.
Additional attempts by Kiev forces to break through the Russian border close to the settlements of Novy Put and Medvezhye were also foiled, according to the ministry.
“The AFU losses amounted to more than 60 troops killed and wounded; two armored fighting vehicles and two motor vehicles were destroyed,” the ministry said.
Furthermore, the ministry announced that Russian air and artillery strikes hit gatherings of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 61st, 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 95th air assault brigades, 1st, 17th national guard brigades and 36th Marine Brigade as well as the 103rd and 129th territorial defense near the settlements Bogdanovka, Guyevo, Daryino, Kubatkin, Kruglenkoye, Knyazhy Pervy, Lyubimovka, Malaya Loknya, Martynovka, Makhovka, Medvezhye, Melovoy, Novy Put, Orlovka, Plekhovo, Pravda, Russkoye Porechnoye, Tolsty Lug and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye.
Other strikes targeted, according to the ministry, the reserves of the 21st, 41st, 115th mechanized brigades, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, the 1st National Guard Brigade as well as the 101st, 103rd and 107th territorial defense brigades close to the settlements of Belovody, Bruski, Bunyakino, Glukhov, Zhuravka, Kucherovka, Kondratovka, Kruzhok, Malushino, Mogritsa, Mirlogi, Pavlovka, Revyakino, Rovnoye, Rechki, Ulanovo and Shalygino in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which borders Kursk.
“Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to more than 370 troops, eight units of hardware, including one tank, two U.S.-made M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, five armored fighting vehicles, two artillery guns, and eight motor vehicles,” the ministry said.
The ministry also released videos showing Russian fighter jets, attack helicopters and suicide drones attacking Kiev forces in the direction of Kursk.
Kiev forces launched a surprise attack from Sumy into Kursk in August with support from their backers in NATO. The Russian military attack began earlier this week and has already made major progress.
According to the Russian MoD, since the start of the battle in Kursk Kiev forces have lost 18,130 troops, 132 tanks, 64 infantry fighting vehicles, 97 armored personnel carriers, 842 armored fighting vehicles, 541 motor vehicles, 145 artillery guns, 31 launchers, including eight American-made HIMARS and six MLRS systems, eight air defense systems, five transport-loading vehicles, 37 electronic warfare stations, nine counter-battery radars, two aerial radars, 18 engineering vehicles, including 11 counter obstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle and one armored recovery vehicle.
