The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on March 13 that air defenses intercepted more than 60 Ukrainian suicide drones in six different Russian regions overnight.
In an initial statement, the ministry said that 11 drones were shot down by Russian air defenses over Belgorod, eight over Bryansk, 29 over Voronezh, eight over Kursk, one over Leningrad and another over Ryazan. Later it said in two follow up statements that three additional drones were intercepted over Belgorod and six more over Voronezh.
Voronezh, located in southwestern Russia, was clearly the main target of the attack. The region’s governor, Alexander Gusev, reported the interception of over 40 drones there, more than the 35 reported by the Russian MoD.
“Air defense forces on duty and electronic warfare systems have detected and destroyed over 40 aerial targets over the Voronezh Region in the past 24 hours. According to the latest updates, there were no casualties or major damage. Air alert remains in effect in the region,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Meanwhile in Ryazan, an oil refinery was reportedly struck by drones. According to unverified reports, there were two casualties.
And in Belgorod, the regional headquarters of Russia’s Federal Security Service was hit, local emergency officials told TASS. According to the officials, there were no casualties, but the front of the building was damaged in the attack.
In addition to the reported interceptions, Russian electronic warfare systems jammed three Ukrainian suicide drones in Rostov, according to the region’s governor.
“On-duty electronic warfare systems destroyed three drones near Novoshakhtinsk this morning. On-duty services are working to establish the impact on the ground,” governor Vasily Golubev wrote on Telegram.
Ukraine stepped up attacks on Russian territory in recent weeks. The Kiev regime apparently sees attacks on Russian territory, which usually target civilian properties and infrastructure, as a way to make up for its never ending failures on the battlefields.
The large-scale drone attack came just a day after a failed large-scale cross-border attack by Kiev forces on Belgorod and Kursk. More than 234 Ukrainian fighters were killed and several pieces of Western-made military equipment were destroyed in the ill-fated attack.
Recent Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory will not likely go without a response. The Russian military could soon launch a large-scale attack with drones and missiles against Kiev forces.

i’m laughing at myself cause i’m gay
daylight and relatively large, slow and low flying drones, so not a big mach even for simple 7,62mm or 12,7mm machinegun fire to down them. but russian air defence still doing there what, a nap after some vodka and bacon?
is this a last ditch effort to cause them pain or is this the beginning of the new way how ukraine fights now? and how the usa envisions the future as with russian living under permanent attacks. are there not calling hamas doing that exact same thing terrorism? but i gues it is something different when our friends do it.
