On July 21, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the full Russian control of the villages of Peschanoe Nizhnee in the Kharkiv region and Rozovka (Andreevka) in the Luhansk People’s Republic.
The first reports about the Russian victories in these villages in the Kupyansk direction came the day before. The footage showed Russian flages waving in the settlements. The Russian Ministry of Defense usually officially confirms control of the villages after the end of the mop up operations there.
The Russian Ministry of Defense also reported the following details about the fighting in the Kupyansk direction:
In addition, formations of the 77th Airmobile, 14th, 115th, 116th mechanized brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the 1st brigade of the National Guard were defeated in the areas of the settlements of Sinkovka, Petropavlovsk, Berestovoye, Kharkiv region and Krasny Liman, Donetsk People’s Republic.
The AFU lost over 520 military personnel, two armored combat vehicles, 12 vehicles, three 155-mm howitzers: US-made M777, M198 and UK-made FH-70, 122-mm self-propelled artillery installation “Gvozdika”, two 122-mm D-30 howitzers, 105-mm gun M119 , US-made counter-battery radar station AN/TPQ-50.
Five ammunition depots of the AFU were destroyed.
Meanwhile, clashes continue in the forest areas around Sinkovka on the northern outskirts of Kupyansk. At the same time, the Russian miilitary continues offensive east of Kupyansk. Russian forces continue attacks west of Kislovka, approaching Stepovaya Novoselka along the railway.
Ukrainian defense along the Zherebets River is being grinded, while the Russian troops are approaching the line of small villages along the Oskol River.
The ongoing local Russian attacks in the Kupyansk direction are likely aimed to distract Ukrainian forces concentrated in the area but not to lead to a large-scaled offensive operation on Kupyansk.
