Kurdish Forces Carry Out New Attacks On Turkish-Backed Militants In Afrin

Kurdish forces carried out a new series of attacks against pro-opposition militants in the Turkish-occupied area of Afrin in northern Syria.

“On February 6 and 7 our forces carried out a series of special operations against the mercenaries of the Turkish occupation in the districts of Shirawa and Jandaris,” the Afrin Liberation Forces (ALF) announced in an official statement on February 9.

The attacks targeted two vehicles and two positions of the Turkish-backed Hamza Division and Jaysh al-Sharqiyah. As a result, seven militants from both groups were injured.

Kurdish activists had accused the Hamza Division and Jaysh al-Sharqiyah of committing war crimes, including the kidnapping, torturing and killing of several civilians. Most of the victims were Syrian Kurds. The two groups are also known for being involved in numerous robberies.

The ALF continue to pose a serious threat to Turkish-backed militants in Afrin, who are still incapable of securing the occupied area. Local observers believe that this situation will not change anytime soon.
