The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) repelled on November 3 a large-scale attack by the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) on the M4 highway in northeast Syria.

The Hawar News Agency (ANHA) said that SNA militants attacked the village of Mushayrafet on the highway with the support of a battle tank, three armored personnel carriers and six armored vehicles.

The attacking force was met with a fierce resistance from SDF fighters that destroyed two vehicles forcing Turkish-backed militants to retreat.

“They wanted to capture the international highway in order to separate the Euphrates and al-Jazeera regions from each other. However, we foiled their attack. Many of their mercenaries were killed and two armored vehicles were destroyed,” Adel Hussein al-Khalil, an SDF fighter, told the ANHA.

The M4 is considered the spine of transportation in northeastern Syria. The highway links al-Hasakah with Raqqa and Aleppo. A day earlier, Turkish-backed militants carried out a night attack on the M4 highway. However, the attack was a foiled by the SDF.
