On June 19, Kurdish forces targeted a Turkish military base near the village of Hazwan to the northwest of the town of al-Bab in the northern countryside of Syria’s Aleppo.

A Liebherr military bulldozer was destroyed as a result of the attack. Some Kurdish sources also claimed that a MRAP [Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected] vehicle of an unidentified type was also destroyed. Nevertheless, this is yet to be confirmed.

While most sources said that the base was shelled with mortars or artillery, some claimed that the base was targeted with anti-tank guided missiles. The Afrin Liberation Forces were allegedly behind the attack.

Following the attack, the Turkish military shelled the towns of Sha’alah, Tell Enab, and Tell Zwayan. The three towns are held by Kurdish forces. Several units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) also deployed there.

The Turkish shelling provoked the SAA to respond by pounding several military posts in the outskirts of al-Bab. No losses were reported.

Turkish forces occupy much of the northern Aleppo countryside. The situation in the region is far from being stable. Turkish forces exchange fire with Kurdish fighters and SAA soldiers on a regular basis.
