Kurdish Forces Will Support Syrian Military's Attack In Idlib If It Helps Them To Retake Afrin - Report

FILE IMAGE: sdf-press.com

On July 26, Aldar Khalil, co-president of the executive body of the Movement for a Democratic Society (TEV-DEM), told the Kurdish Rudaw TV that Kurdish forces in northeastern Syria are ready to participate in any military operation of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the northern governorate of Idlib if this brings them closer to retaking the Kurdish area of Afrin.

“One of the steps towards liberating Afrin is that we must put pressure on Turkey and ask them to withdraw from the soil of Syria completely – and our enclaves in particular … To evict them, we must try whatever means necessary, be they diplomatic efforts, military means, or through the media,” Rudaw quoted Khalil as saying.

TEV-DEM is a coalition of several Kurdish parties in northeastern Syria, including the well-known Democratic Union Party (PYD). Together these parties lead the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), which is the political wing of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Hours later, Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad told Russian journalists that the next target of the SAA will be the radical groups in Idlib. Few months ago, the Syrian president called for a dialogue with the SDF to reach a political solution for the situation in northeastern Syria.

“Now our goal is Idlib, but not Idlib alone, and there are of course areas in eastern Syria controlled by several groups,” al-Assad said, according to the Russian RT TV.

While the Damascus government appears to be interested in launching a military operation in Idlib, it is not clear if it will consider allowing Kurdish forces to participate in any such sensitive development.

Very interesting development ?

Daniel Castro

And of course SAA should only help if Kurds return Raqqa and eastern Syria.

S Melanson

Yes, I think several issues should be squared away before they become ‘brothers in arms’. Certainly of interest is the US reaction to this development. Erdogan’s reaction is pretty predictable but should be entertaining nonetheless.

Ma_Laoshi

Well US reaction will be predictably negative. Rather, will the Kurds manage to finally go to the washroom without asking Uncle Sam’s permission first. Encouraging the US to get the hell out of Syria is key to ending this tragedy; similarly next door in Iraq.

S Melanson

Well the YPG just offered to join forces with the SAA and no mention of the US in this development. If the offer was made without US knowledge, it signals the YPG are distancing themselves from the US. With Trump at the helm, I will wait for the US response rather than try to guess.

Jens Holm

No, its not.

S Melanson

Ok, could you clarify a bit so I am clear what you disagree with. Always open to different views.

Jens Holm

YPG+J all the time has had their own agenda. By that they and fx USA are in a Coalition for figting ISIS.

USA had Assads as enemy Nr 1. it was to remove, replace or redece those.

Kurds has not. Their wishes all the time has been more selfrule seen in different versions from the wished today and even countries as a possibility. Its Assads given them real local influence – or Assads are weak and only can handle “his part”

Kurds by that did not uprise. None of them wants Jihadists as winners, because they certainly do anything to sekulars and moderate muslims.

So USA see the yellow zone as succesfull n permanent Assad reduction and protect it because of that. It doesnt matter who is in it. Well its seen many times, they actually prefares kind of arabs for marxist even those by PYD are moderates.

So SDFs – here by Kurds only and maybee a few more – are paddling with the wind. I by that cant see it matters if USAs are told or not.

They do talk well about everything, but trying to connect Afrin tells everything to me. that was their own important agenda even USA as told gave them no air support. Afrin is same thing. YPG+J could have left Afrin. Some would say that cpuld make sense. But they did the opposite and smugled in extra soldiers and left DEZ for protecting west of Manbij Counsil.

They are not puppets of USA.

S Melanson

Some good points. Thank you.

Tudor Miron

Yes, they are – US puppets helping to occupy Syrian land for their own agenda. After Afrin they learned and independence referendum in Iraq they learned how reliable their masters (US/Israel) are.

Jens Holm

I was asked for an explanation for why not and has given it argumentative telling why You are just eviol persons, which only should run nothing.

Mustafa Mehmet

Brother again?can you trust backstabbing kurd once again

S Melanson

Hence my putting in quotes. It will take a long time I think for the Kurds to fix the bridges they burned that they wished they hadn’t.

Jens Holm

A classic plus – minus.

S Melanson

I see your point so to clarify.

In my opinion, despite distrust, Damascus should come to an arrangement with the YPG for several reasons.

(1) Kurds form a significant ethnic group in Syria and are still Syrian Citizens

Kurds number close to 2 million in Syria or around 10% of the Syrian population – however, the Kurds are concentrated in northern Syria and are the dominant ethnic group in some regions such as the Afrin.

Assad wants to restore Syria’s territorial integrity and has shown a willingness to offer reconciliation with opposition forces and this has been successful in avoiding costly protracted military operations, facilitating rapid liberation of Syrian lands. Assad should not treat the Kurds any differently in reconciling. Reconciling does not mean Assad extends trust – I am sure he distrusts the FSA even if now fight on the side of the SAA.

(2) Reconciliation with the Kurds is desirable for:

Weakening the US position in Eastern Syria Assad wants turkey out of Afrin, rapprochement with Kurds is a required step considering they are the dominant ethnic group in the Afrin The YPG are decent militia and can aid the SAA Once the war is over, reconciliation with the Kurds will help ease return to normalcy, as much as is possible. Note also there is a large Kurdish population bordering Syria and so reconciling with the Kurds will keep the PKK focused on Turkey as enemy number one.

Markos Pnderos

kurds will return rakka, rakka is full with arabs kurds dont want rakka for ever

Daniel Castro

Jerusalem is also full of palestinians…

Jens Holm

Why do You ignore facts. Its already decided a Year ago, that Raqqa/Tabqa should decide their own destiny by voting.

the big problem today is, that even before SDFs became something half of its population left to maninly Turkey as well as all others in the yellow zone.

Those are voters too. So even Your dirty arabs my here and arabs there says many of the ones are not syhmpathetic to SAA as well as SDF and hardly FSA at all.

But thats far beyond Your many little heads here. This is not a question of Kurds. They prefared ISIS for someone like You for good reasons.

Daniel Castro

Nobody prefered ISIS, it was always a dirty game with tons of money and shady alliances.

But of course the arabs who live there “prefer” not to have their land stolen by the kurds.

Jens Holm

Thats the usual illusion added. Everybody else in the world did this, including jews wrote Your Holy Choran and Muhammed Economics with ancisters of USA.

Only stupidisme Kurds would have that land at all. Turks and Assads say and again and again has fabricated things of the worst kind against them.

Daniel Castro

We saw that in Irak, they only left Kirkuk with weapons pointed to their faces, then we saw the criminal bunch packing all they could steal and leaving the houses which were never theirs.

Jens Holm

Kirkuk is not comparable at all.

You see all those many miilion kurds as one. PYD/YPG+J has worked hard and violently to keep all Influence of Barzani out of Syria. They systematicly has killed each other leaders as well.

How comes.

Barzani did not keep the borders for the Iraqi Kurdistan Autonome by the Constitution of Iraq at (2003) 2004. The voting incl Kurdian maybee a Country was a very good idea, and also because many kurds lives there and it was like that in the Ottoman Region of Kurdistan to WW1 ended. I do make sense.

But that was against the Constitution and by that kind of only 1 of 11 Peshmerga supported it for sensible reasons.

The Peshmergas are defined as milisias. Barzani is not their Commander. He has to ask and they can say no. They did say no. …………………………………………………………………………

And let me remind You that before Saddams started killing and deporting kurds from there 3 of 4 in Kirkuk actually was kurds. If anything, they took from killers and thieves. And before that they also resettled many deported Kurds in the rural districts moving too many away. ……………………………………………………………………So much for Kirkuk.

It makes a lot of sense to give Kurds Kirkuk and more to it back. But its against the law – And bagdad with maliki still not in jail would like to have all oil. ALL.

A god help for ISIL/old Saddams to uprise too. …………………………………………………………………..

Daniel Castro

Husseim hadn’t gassed the kurds for no reason, Kurds are zionist allies for a long time.

Jens Holm

If I should rank, You will be before them.

Daniel Castro

All I say is they are not saints, and never were saints.

It is easy for you to blame all on Saddan as it is for me to blame all on the kurds.

Current nation states should be preserved, jumping into kurdistan adventure will only lead to bloodshed.

“If I should rank, You will be before them.”

Of course, you are a zionist too.

lene johansen

yes he is

Jens Holm

Go and detonate Yourself.

Bob

That is rubbish – most of the actual Arab population were not present in Raqqa after final ISIS withdrawal (US-SDF just bused remnant ISIS south towards besieged Dier Ezzore) – US Marine artillery had flattened most residential districts of city – and many Arab residents being actively prevented form returning to the city by SDF cordon.

Jens Holm

Thats what I kind of wrote about. People should not compare Kirkuk and Raqqa.

Kirkus is a Kurdish thing and had 3/4 of them and around it, there were/are many kurds. From sense of that(apart from who is running the oil) it would make sense more parts there would be a part of their Autonome.

Raqqa as well as Manbij are different. Manbij wa to block for ISIS transportation by Tisren Dam to Raqqa and a military logistic thing. It could be taken because there was 20% Kurds in the County as well as it was supported by many local arabs. which actually was the old Leadership of the Town themselves liberating their own wifes and children.

Raqqa are different from that and, because the staying arabs were close to ISIS in the traditional way. Its estimated from some, that 10% were kurds as well as more then many think actual has urbanized from North by the Dam Irrigations making more new land, then they took.

So thats a fulfilled wish from the more and more joining arabs in SDF as well as The Coalition by mainly USA hoping to make a counterweight to the dominating Kurds and making a non ISIS zone from there to Iraq adn even more in their own version of moderate FSA(known from Al Tanf).

As we have seen the supprt for that FSA has not been overwhelming as an adding for a big non-ISIS area all the way to Abu kamal. But we have seen the many other arabs has joined SDFs and some kind of FSAs are not able to join – both ways. I am sure kurds never would have had Raqqa apart from killing ISIS.

True half of the population is not there. Those should be there and vote about it.

But that goes for the rest of Syria. Here its a typical thing for You, that You fokus on kurds only.

Today we have 11 million refugees and displaced persons of Iraq and 1/2 million dead ones. What about them. There should have beeen some 19 mio. Syrians.

Where are their right for this and that whare Assads take back. They even are deported to Turks. What Great leader of the Syrian arabs is that, What right is given by that.

I only see that right is taken and kept. The more I read from the past, the more bad things are seen. Kurds are not the only uprisers. All uprisers has been knocked out by fear, cencur bajonets and even gas and artillery mixted with starvations.

Thats why I see Assads are not the right ones for Syrians.

When You kind of say, that SDFs should not be there that much, whats the options. Well its chaos again. ISIS is not gone, some FSA and well armed as well as a few SAA supporters, tribe differences.

So You kind of tell, those should re-fight Raqqa in stead should fight each other again.

Hard for me to understand, that many of the refugges from the yellow zone cant come back. Those are mainly the peacefull part of them.

Liam

U will see The refugees while coming back will hold the pictures of Bashar and praise for him. And they will shout God, Syria, Bashar Also they will shout Forever Forever, Bashar Al assad

Including ALL Oil Fields

New Israel is Muslim

The terror group known as FUKUS supports the kurds and their continuation of the war. FUKUS does not want a united Syria under Assad.

TRADE IDEA: SDF Returns Manbij, Raqqa and Oil Fields To Syrian Government. In Return: Syrian Government helps Kurds get Afrin Back, Gets Protection from Erdogan and Jihadists, Allows them to join People’s Council and Grants Equal Rights to citizens, No Aggression. Government gets Euphrates shield territory while SDF gets Olive Branch Territory. This deal maybe a little unrealistic. Hopefully I’m not wrong Cuz.

Promitheas Apollonious

wrong. SAA get all his country back and never allow kurds to have any saying or position within syria. Syria belongs to Syria and not the ones who backstub her every step of the way. Unfortunately, I dont have any say in the matter, just my personal opinion.

jorge

The Kurds have already understood that they have no chance, so they are going to try to have the best price, as….they are. The only that seems that still want to play are the Turks

You can call me Al

Yes and No for me. Once over the Kurds eat humble pie, BUT for harmony they must be treated as Syrians……… especially if they join the SAA and eliminate Idlib.

(My view only).

Promitheas Apollonious

the kurds same as the turks are notorious to always backstub who ever help them or try to. They want SAA to put them back into afrin ion control, then they turn around and betray them same way they did up to this point. This kind to me, are not different than the zionists are.

For me is not an opinion, it is personal expiriense. Long story not for here. By the way, have you seen the flags they was waving around when they was thinking they make their own country, at the expense of the countries they given them hospitality?

Concrete Mike

I agree with you, this treachery of theirs is inexcusable…

You can call me Al

War is a dreadful thing. But the most important thing is that Syria returns to what it used to be, UNITED, without people scared shitless, ever time they went out or went to bed.

It was a wonderful place. NO MORE FIGHTING ONCE THE SCUM ARE DEAD OR KICKED OUT.

Just see what comes out in the next few days and then, if you want – come back to me.

Concrete Mike

I get what your saying, but the political leadership of the kurds must pay a heavy price. The people must be given a chance to reconcile with their syrian brothers

You can call me Al

Oh – I totally agree.

Concrete Mike

I dont see any other way. Its a shame what these poor people went through , all for politics. After this stunt they pulled off , they can kiss their dream if their own country goodbye.

They got in bed with the saudis…so i say scalp the politcal leadership. Let the people join syria.

FlorianGeyer

I agree and for that reason the Kurds would have to evict the US from East of the Euphrates before any agreement is made and before the Idlib operation starts.

You can call me Al

See my other post, maybe on another article. I made it quite clear that my view is ONLY IF they assist in kicking out or eliminating the Yanks.

FlorianGeyer

Its good to know we and many others I would think are on the same wavelength Al.

Gregory Casey

Good idea! Depends on whether Uncle Sam and his little helpers co-operate …….. remember they have 1,000+ ISIS Terrorists under their tender care …….. reports indicate that attempts are being made to reprogramme some of them to become sleepers for Amerikay and Saudis and Israelis …….. and then to let them loose into the world with clean records and new identities

FlorianGeyer

That is sadly almost a certainty I think Gregory.

You can call me Al

The Syrians, Russia and Iran are not stupid. Why TF would Syria enter a war with 3 million Kurds….. doesn’t that suit Turkey’s goals ?.

I have said it previously, they must eliminate ISIS in the East and then turn on the Yanks, retreat, negotiate and take their lot + become true Syrian citizens again.

+ apologise.

Gregory Casey

As happens …… I agree with you!!

Gregory Casey

I tend to agree with you but ……. but but …….. Kurdish buy-in to Syrian State is essential to peace into the future!

You can call me Al

So you do not agree with him, you agree with me.

I just copied their link… and placed it on Southfront…. I have had a lot of problems with Disqus lately.. they are removing content… changing content and when I want to open it I get stupid messages that I tried to post Racist stuff..when I want to post I have to push four times to get it posted… this is an article about the U.S. & the White Helmets…a couple of others I spoke have the same problem… Freespirit…& TS was banned…

Jens Holm

I have few of those and think its a relative free site. i mainly accept a few of mine are removed, because I meainly remeber they were partly nasty.

Merijn

I have been pretty nasty… never a problem but with all those links they are starting to Annoy me…. Especially because they are normal links…they change my stuff…all I know is that they don’t like to see everything…that is called CENSORSHIP…NO FREEDOM OF SPEECH…

Jens Holm

Well, we do that with crimials when they do the same crimes again and again. Around the many sites, You also can be banned for short or long term and even by country.

Someone like me immidiatly banned from an Iraqian site because I was not local and a few things more.

I would like if You wrote less or nothing. But rules are like that. The owners decide and fx this is a free site. You can come with as lot here probatly having more soft corners.

I was never Banned! They Change My LINKS! And servers cannot be found…that is all bullshit… I just get a new Link and post it again… Troubles solved… if they Remove it again I Post it a Thousand Times

Daniel Castro could be right too. Some Goverments control too much in periods or all the time.

Could be… but I get the message from Disqus… So maybe Holland is saying to Disqus it is Racist Material… which it isn’t as you can read… but in that way it BECOMES REAL EASY TO LABEL EVERYTHING AS BEING RACIST….

Daniel Castro

Which would also means you are being monitored by your government…

J Ramirez

Don’t trust the Kurds, they have no loalty to anyone.

pippo pluto e paperino

pippo pluto e paperino

It seems to me that the Kurds behave very stupidly. And I think this stupidity depends largely on the pressures that the US makes on them. Before the Turkish invasion, it would have been enough for them, as is right and legitimate, to have recognized the sovereignty of the Syrian government and Turkey had no reason to intervene. Now that they have lost the province of Afrin they can hope that the SAA army will reconquer it alone because if the Turks see a Kurdish contribution and fear a new Kurdish government of the region will never withdraw. And everyone knows that the Turkish military force is much higher than the Syrian.

ελευθεριος βενιζελος

not a bad idea… it will take them away from usa keep the rebels occupied in that part of the front destroy or inflict casualties on their most loyal part of the armed forces keep the turks busy and later on we will see….

gustavo

Syria-Russia-Hezbolah-Iran do not need this help, and it looks just a political trap prepared by USA. Kurds arw just USA-puppets.

Elmarie Muller

Syrian government forces does not need spies and defectors when their are offer badluck US DOLLARS.Kurdsh for now should sort out Afrin issue with the bosses of middle east destructors USA puppets which is Nato ally of occupier Turkey. How could Syrian military which were always attack by terrorists USA help arm Gangsters of KURDISH ethnic terrorists group.SDF is a Syrian territory sell out arm Gangsters to USA and puppets.Syrian army is going to operate with allies alone in Idlib. What and then will March to the gates of Raqqa and take it back forcefully.Afrin will be a last on table to make it make sure it will be make a multi cultural ethnic group area to avoid cross border terrorist threat to Turkey. Turkey concern first just as Israel and Jordan concern was undertook . then lastly terrorists arm gangster of Kurdistan SDF traitors.

Elmarie Muller

Kurds must be disarm and integrated just as any ethnic group in Syria no more KURDISH or china town.
