Kurdish rebels bombed railway tracks as a freight train was passing by, derailing several carriages in in the mainly Turkish city of Diyarbakir on Monday, according to Turkish media.
The Turkish state-run media outlet “Anadolu Agency” says there were no casualties in the incident, adding that the government immediately responded with a military operation to catch the attackers.
While no group officially claimed the responsibility for the attack, Turksih media outlets report that the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) was behind the attack.
The PKK has been fighting a separatist insurgency in southern Turkey since 1984.
