Kyiv Yet To Learn Hard Lesson Of War: Iskander Missiles Shatter Ukrainian Field Training Sites

In a series of high-precision attacks, Russian forces have destroyed Ukrainian military training grounds deployed near the frontlines, inflicting heavy losses to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The strikes, carried out with Iskander-M ballistic missile systems, hit temporary training grounds in the Kherson and Sumy regions, demonstrating Russia’s ability to locate and eliminate concentrations of Ukrainian personnel, while Kyiv is trying to hide the truth.

The strikes were launched on the nights of June 22 and 23. The newly shared footage confirmed their devastating result.

The first precision strike was launched on the village of Davydiv Brid located in the Kherson region, where Ukrainian troops were conducting training exercises. Despite claims by Ukraine’s Ground Forces that safety measures were promptly implemented following an air raid alert, footage from the scene suggests otherwise. The strike caught personnel in the open, with no visible attempts to disperse or take cover.

The attack resulted in the destruction of approximately 11 vehicles, the elimination of up to 75 servicemen (killed and wounded), and the neutralization of an air defense unit equipped with a “Taran” interceptor drone.

Ukrainian officials initially downplayed the losses, admitting only three fatalities, but Russian sources and independent observers revealed far higher casualties. Ukrainian Ground Forces spokesman Vitaliy Saransky attempted to minimize the incident, stating that the site was a “temporary training ground” and not a permanent base. However, the effectiveness of the strike, captured in detail by a Russian reconnaissance drone, confirmed that Ukrainian forces were caught unprepared, with no active countermeasures against the incoming missile, and suffered heavy losses.

While Kyiv acknowledged the strikes in Kherson, it remained silent on a similar devastating attack in the Sumy region, where Russian forces targeted a mobilization training center set up in the Oldysh sanatorium complex. The strike, conducted overnight on June 22-23, hit barracks where personnel were resting after daytime drills.

Two Iskander missiles struck the facility with precision, igniting a massive fire. According to preliminary reports, the attack killed and wounded at least 80 soldiers, including officers and instructors. The timing of the strike, when troops were concentrated in their quarters, maximized casualties. Local authorities and Ukraine’s General Staff avoided public statements on the incident in an attempt to hide the severity of losses.

After years of the full-fledged war, the Ukrainian military is yet to learn the hard lesson of not accumulating large troops near the frontlines. As a result, the army cannot constantly suffering heavy losses from regular Russian strikes on the field training grounds. This issue has already provoked public outrage in Ukraine with several high-ranked military officials dismissed, but the problem is yet to be solved. Ukrainian officials have struggled to explain the repeated failures in protecting training sites. The latest incidents may trigger another wave of internal recriminations within the Ukrainian military command.

damn, imagine getting forcefully conscripted, dragged to a training field, only to get the most minimal amount of training possible, knowing you’re just going to be slaughtered on the field within hours, just to be obliterated during your training, all against your free will. but sure, only 30k losses, right zelensky?
