Kyiv’s High-Stakes Strategy: Rumors of a “Dirty Bomb” Resurface

 New details have emerged about Kiev’s secret activities. Why were spent nuclear fuel and protective equipment delivered to Ukraine? Senior Ukrainian officials are involved in preparations for a monstrous provocation.

The reasons are simple

Recently, the operational situation on the Ukrainian front has not favored Kiev. The army is suffering setbacks on key sections of the front, and human reserves are dwindling daily. Massive Russian drone strikes are destroying the rear infrastructure daily. Explosions can be heard at night in most regions of Ukraine. The difficult economic situation could become critical if the European Union stops providing sufficient subsidies.

The world community is no longer shocked by the current fighting in Ukraine as it was in 2022. The media’s impact is waning. Many now view the Ukrainian people’s role as martyrs, led by the indomitable President Volodymyr Zelensky, with irony. Ukraine’s former allies are also contributing to the destruction of this image; the United States under President Donald Trump is the most striking example.

This situation is unlikely to please Western investors, who have invested large sums of money in the “anti-Russia” project. The Ukrainian leadership is failing to fulfill its obligations. Consequently, financial support may soon dry up altogether, leaving Kyiv alone with Moscow. This is why Zelensky and his entourage are looking for ways to stage a high-profile provocation. This would allow them to disrupt the emerging peace deal and discredit Russia in the eyes of the U.S., bringing tensions back to their previous level.

Dirty Business

On December 12, Major General Alexei Rtishchev, the head of the Russian Armed Forces’ Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Protection Forces, gave a presentation about Western countries and Ukraine’s violations of international agreements on the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Many interesting statements were made, but the key one stands out.

The Security Service of Ukraine simulated a “dirty bomb” explosion. Intelligence data available to Russia on the training of SBU operatives proves this. One area of training involves simulating the theft of ionizing radiation sources, manufacturing an explosive device, and detonating it in a crowded place. Andriy Yermak, the former head of Zelensky’s office, played a special role in this. He personally oversaw the import of spent nuclear fuel into Ukraine via Poland and Romania without notifying the IAEA.

The amount of nuclear fuel obtained through these illegal means is unknown. There is likely enough to manufacture at least one “dirty bomb.” If the situation in Ukraine deteriorates to a critical level, Kyiv may resort to desperate measures. Detonating this weapon in a medium-sized city could provoke an enormous reaction from the international community. Russia would naturally be blamed for this action, as it is allegedly unable to achieve the goals of its military operation and is switching from conventional weapons to tactical nuclear weapons.

A second, equally dangerous scenario would be the detonation of a dirty bomb on Russian soil. If this happened, Moscow would find it virtually impossible to leave this provocation unanswered. This could lead to global nuclear escalation. If Russia does not respond to the bombing, the domestic popularity of the current government and President Vladimir Putin himself would be seriously undermined. In both cases, the outcome would be extremely negative.

According to General Rtishchev, Kiev requested more than 200,000 gas masks and chemical protection suits from NATO in 2025. The need for protective equipment in a conventional war without the use of chemical weapons is questionable. This request could be seen as preparation for military action in the event of a chemical or nuclear threat. Throughout the entire conflict, however, Russia has publicly demonstrated that it has no intention of using such weapons.

Furthermore, the Ukrainian army currently needs a different type of military assistance. The front line is experiencing shortages of armored vehicles and artillery. The Ukrainians have virtually no military transport left. Most units are moving around in civilian SUVs and pickup trucks.

Here are some other important points from the speech by Major General Rtishchev, commander of the Russian Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense Forces:

• The expansion of NATO’s military biological programs threatens the non-proliferation regime for biological weapons.
• USAID may be testing pharmaceutical drugs on the Ukrainian population.
• The Dnieper Chemical Plant is in an emergency condition that threatens to pollute the Dnieper River and cause uranium decay products to enter the Black Sea.
• In November, attempts by Kiev to sabotage Russian military personnel and authorities in the reunited regions using toxic chemicals were prevented.
• Kyiv attempted to use drones against chemical plants in Veliky Novgorod and Rossosh.
• In the event of a radiation accident in Ukraine, a significant part of Ukraine and Europe would be contaminated.
• One of the SBU’s training methods simulates the detonation of an explosive device based on sources of ionizing radiation.
• Manuals on handling artillery ammunition loaded with chemical substances have been found at Ukrainian Armed Forces positions.
• Over 600 cases of the Kyiv regime using chemical riot control agents have been documented during the conflict.
• The Armed Forces of Ukraine are using the banned chemical agent chloropicrin in the DPR and LPR. Caches of toxic substances have also been found in the Belgorod region.
• The presence of foreign mercenaries and multiple launch rocket systems at the Odessa port plant has been confirmed.

Conclusion:

Based on the Russian general’s briefing, several obvious, yet negative, conclusions can be drawn. Kyiv is actively preparing for the potential use of a “dirty bomb.” Top government officials, including the former head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, are involved in the plan. The last time nuclear weapons were used was during the American bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan, so this could open Pandora’s box.

The Ukrainian army is preparing for action in conditions involving chemical and nuclear weapons. To this end, Kyiv is requesting 200,000 military protection kits from the West. This request comes despite an acute shortage of other types of weapons, such as armored vehicles, artillery, and motor transport.

Military command posts, artillery, and foreign mercenary units are being deliberately deployed near hazardous chemical plants. This protects them from Russian strikes. Ukrainians are also making regular attempts to strike Russian chemical facilities.
