A 52-year old civilian was killed on February 14 when a landmine exploded in his farm in the town of al-Salt in the western part of Jordan, according to Roya News.
Jordanian security forces rushed to the explosion site in order to inspect it. During the search operation, a second landmine [or an improvised explosive device (IED)] was triggered by mistake. A security source told Roya that three personnel of the Jordanian Public Security Directorate (PSD) were killed as a result
Several units of Jordanian security forces are currently surrounding the explosion area and carrying out an extensive search operation.

Some local sources said that the landmines were leftover from old battles between Jordan and Israel. However, others believe these mines may have been planted by terrorist cells. Al-Salt is known for being a hub for radicals.
Last August, Jordanian security forces carried out a security operation against several ISIS cells in al-Salt. During the operation, several terrorists were killed and captured.
