On August 24, three militants were killed when they stumbled upon a landmine in the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib.
The accident took place in the outskirts of the town of San, which is located right along the main frontline in the southern countryside of Idlib. The militants were either on a patrol, or conducting a reconnaissance mission.
According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the slain militants were members of al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the de-facto ruler of Greater Idlib.
Just a day earlier, three militants of HTS were killed when the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) shelled positions of the terrorist group in the southern Idlib countryside and the western countryside of Aleppo. The shelling also claimed the life of a field commander of the Izza Army, a close ally of HTS.
HTS and its allies violate the ceasefire in Greater Idlib on a regular basis. The ceasefire was brokered by Russia and Turkey more than two years ago. However, the situation in the region is still unusable.
The SAA and its allies, first and foremost the Russian military, have been responding to ceasefire violations. Earlier this week, a series of Russian airstrikes destroyed a headquarters, a communication center and an ammunition depot of HTS in the western outskirts of Idlib city, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
