Eleven people were killed and many others were wounded when a booby-trapped car exploded in the city center of the northern Syrian region of Afrin in the morning of July 11.

Enab Baladi, a pro-opposition news outlet, said that many women and children were among the explosion’s casualties, adding that many of the wounded people are in a critical condition.

“Critical injuries were transported to the National Hospital in Afrin … The number of fatalities could raise,” the outlet’s reporter in Afrin said.

As usual, opposition activists hinted that Kurdish forces could be behind the explosion. However, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, so far.

The Turkish-occupied regions in northern Syria are witnessing deteriorating security situation. The Turkish military’s limited involvement and a low level of competence of the local militants are among the main reasons behind this situation, which will not likely improve anytime soon.
