Large Explosion Rocks Hezbollah Heartland In South Lebanon (Videos)

Screen gran from one of the videos showing the explosion.

Early on January 13, a fairly large explosion rocked Lebanon’s South Governorate, the heartland of Iran’s top ally Hezbollah.

The explosion emanated from a building located between the towns of Houmine El Faouqa and Roumine, some 18 kilometers away from the separation line with Israel.

Al Jadeed news channel said that a fire from a faulty electricity generator spread to a fuel depot then to a nearby warehouse, where unexploded munitions from the 2006 War were being stored, causing the large explosion.

However, LBCI news said that the explosion emitted from at a military site of Hezbollah located on Zahrani River. The outlet noted that an “old munition” may have been the cause of the explosion.

The explosion resulted in some material losses. Nevertheless, no casualties were reported by Lebanese authorities or local news sources.

Last December, an explosion rocked a warehouse of the Palestinian Hamas Movement in the Borj El Chmali refugee camp near the city of Tyre in South Lebanon. The explosion claimed the life of a Hamas member. Beck then, Hamas said that explosion was caused by an electrical fault in a warehouse containing oxygen and gas cylinders as well as detergents and disinfectants.

Hezbollah has not yet commented on Houmine El Faouqa-Roumine explosion. The possibly of sabotage can’t be ruled out, especially that the Israeli intelligence is known to be highly active in Lebanon.
