The Lebanese Armed Forces announced on September 10 that its units had shot down an Israeli drone that violated the country’s aerospace.
“At about 17:10, a hostile Israeli drone penetrated the Lebanese airspace over the town of Aita al-Shaab, and was shot down by personnel of one of the army posts at a distance of 200 meters from the Blue Line inside Lebanese territory,” the army said in a statement.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) acknowledged that one of their drones was lost near the separation line with Lebanon, saying that “there is no fear of information leakage.”
Photos posted on social media by Lebanese users revealed that the downed Israeli drone was a commercially available DJI Mavic Pro.

The DJI Mavic Pro, which is equipped with a camera and can stay in the air for 27 minutes, has been in service with the IDF since 2016. Drones of this type are usually used for “non-secret” missions by the Golani Brigade, Givati Brigade, Kfir Brigade, Nahal Brigade and Paratroopers Brigade.
Last month, Hezbollah fighters shot down a drone of the same type after it had crossed the separation line from the Israeli side to an area located south of the Lebanese town of Ayta al-Shab.
Tension between Israel and Lebanon has been rising since July 20, when a series of Israeli airstrikes on the Syrian capital claimed the life of a Hezbollah fighters. The IDF is now anticipating a response by the Lebanese group.
