On October 28, Hezbollah launched another wave of attacks against the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) from southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah said in a statement that its fighters attacked the Israeli Risha site and al-Jardah post with artillery and “suitable weapons,” scoring direct hits. In two other statements, the group announced attacks on al-Abad and al-Marj sites with anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM) and “suitable weapons.
In addition, there were reports of rocket attacks from southern Lebanon. Incoming rocket sirens were sounded in the Upper Galilee settlements of Misgav Am and Margaliot.
Later, the IDF said that a number of rockets were launched from southern Lebanon toward the Zar’it area in Galilee. No casualties or material losses were reported.
The IDF also announced an anti-aircraft missile that was fired from southern Lebanon at an Israeli drone was intercepted. The drone was not damaged. The IDF said that it struck a Hezbollah position from which the missile was launched. The group didn’t comment.
Moreover, the IDF said that a drone strike targeted a cell in southern Lebanon that was preparing to carry out an ATGM attack against an area close to the settlement of Hanita.
The IDF also shelled different parts of southern Lebanon throughout the day, even attempting to start fires at forests by firing illumination rounds. One such round hit a position of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon near the town of Naqoura. There were no reports of casualties.
Hezbollah and its allies, including Palestinian armed factions, have had near-daily exchanges of fire with the IDF along the Israeli-Lebanese border, since the October 7 Hamas-led surprise attack from the Gaza Strip.
As of October 28, the clashes on the Lebanon front have claimed the lives of seven Israelis -six soldiers and one civilian- 45 fighters of Hezbollah, two fighters from the Lebanese Resistance Brigades, seven Palestinian fighters -three from the Hamas Movement and four from the Islamic Jihad- and four Lebanese civilians -two elderly men and two journalists-.
The IDF is currently preparing to develop and expand its ground operations in Gaza, which will certainly lead to more escalation on the Lebanon front.
