On Thursday, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies besieged ISIS fighters in the eastern Hama countryside, according to pro-government sources.

The ISIS last supply route to the eastern Hama countryside was cut off after SAA unites advanced from Jabal Shaer and meet with their counterparts advancing from Jabal Sawwanah south the Ithriya town.

The Hezbollah media wing in Syria announced on Thursday that the SAA captured Bir Al-Syd, Bir Al Ewra, Rujm Al Hajan and Jabal Al Fasid in the eastern Hama countryside. Moreover, the SAA captured Sawwanah village and Jabal Be’las in the northeastern Homs countryside.

Government troops are in Sawwanah:

A pro-government media activist among SAA troops said that the capture of eastern Hama countryside will free up between 3000 and 5000 SAA soldiers and National Defense Force (NDF) fighters, plus over 200 armoured vehicles and tanks.

The ISIS-linked Amaq news agency didn’t report any news from the eastern Hama countryside today so far. This could mean that ISIS already withdrew a major part of its fighters from the area.

Go SAA !

Blucross

Well done.

Ice Icegold

Good job !!! Now eliminate all the criminals you find in this pocket.

gustavo

I hope Russia airspace force be working very hard trying to eliminate all the terrorists that are running east to DZ.

Ma_Laoshi

Even if these numbers are literally true, it may mean less than it seems because the quality of SAA units is so uneven. Oh well, at least they can guard other flanks, of which there will still be plenty after these pockets are mopped up.

Jesus

You do not want lower quality troops to guard your flanks, just ask the Germans about their flank protection in Stalingrad. Sattelite troops that were not well equipped and unmotivated to fight in the cold weather.

Jens Holm

you are right. The stupidity for germans was to know that from they was thrown back form Moscow.

Hitler still had a chance to at least delay their defeat by taking only oilfields in caucasus or the relative unimportant Stalingrad but tryed both and got none.

Wahid Algiers

Russians broke through the lines of romanian “soldiers” in Stalingrad.

Rüdiger Preiss

Excellent job :)!

Jesus

Good, first pocket encircled, the second pocket will be encircled soon, ISIS in central Syria has become useless, the pockets will be cleaned up of any ISIS remanants; in mean time the Euphrates valley is the last battleground, with front lines shortening quickly, SAA and allies will have significant superiority in numbers and equipment to crush ISIS in Deir Ezzor territory.

Wahid Algiers

Absolutely right.

KATN!

Rob

This is good news.

mischa majstrovic

But what about Idlib ? How much trouble can be expected from there, considering the on-going reorganization and consolidation of various takfiri outfits ?

Barba_Papa

Well, if the East Hama pocket gets cleared it would mean that the Idlib headchoppers can no longer cut off the road of life towards Aleppo. That kind of limits their strategic options to Latakia, Hama and Aleppo. That also limits the areas that the SAA has to defend.
