The Libyan Air Force (LAF) carried out on September 7 an airstrike on Mitiga International Airport, located east of the country’s capital, Tripoli.
“The airstrike hit a target linked to the Turkish Armed Forces in Mitiga base in Tripoli,” a source in the Libyan National Army (LNA) told the Libyan al-Marsad newspaper.
Mitiga Airport is being used as a military base by forces supporting the Government of National Accord (GNA). Turkish unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs) are reportedly operating from the airport.
Earlier, warplanes of the GNA air force conducted a series of airstrikes on LNA troops in the outskirt of Tripoli. Libyan sources shared photos of an LNA BM-21 Grad rocket launcher that was destroyed in one of the airstrikes.
In the last two months, clashes around Tripoli tuned down as the LNA failed to continue its advance towards the capital’s center. Despite this, both sides are still not working to reach a political agreement.
