The Libyan National Army (LNA) got control of the town of Suq al-Khamis on April 5, according to the Reuters News agency. The town is located 40km south of the Libyan capital of Tripoli, the main target of the LNA advance.
“The capture came after clashes with forces allied to the internationally recognized government in Tripoli,” Reuters quoted a source in the LNA as saying.
Meanwhile, the RT TV reported that the area of Wadi al-Hirah, near Suq al-Khamis, is witnessing heavy clashes between the LNA and forces loyal to the Libyan Government of National Accord (LGNA), which controls Tripoli.
The LNA launched a large-scale advance to capture Tripoli a day earlier. In the very first hours of the advance, the army captured the city of Gharyan south of the capital. Later, LNA forces began advancing towards Tripoli from the western direction and managed to capture the 27 Gate. However, pro-LGNA forces recaptured the gate within a few hours and captured dozens of soldiers.
Libyan sources told RT that the LNA is now pushing new reinforcements towards al-Hirah in an attempt to capture it before the end of the day. Later, the army could advance towards the strategic town of Aziziya and even towards Tripoli International Airport.
“However, pro-LGNA forces recaptured the gate within a few hours and captured dozens of soldiers.” Seeing that the LNA did advance only with a fraction of their forces, i hope the double down. This has been years in the making, and taking Tripoli would finally put a nail in the coffin of the LGNA and their Jihadist allys. So lets hope Haftar does not fuck up.. Or that the US intervenes for their Puppet LGNA.
