On February 18, the Libyan National Army (led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar) announced that its forces had shelled a Turkish cargo ship loaded with weapons and ammunition at the port of Tripoli.
The city of Tripoli and a short chunk of the coast in norhern Libya are controlled by the Turkish-backed Government of National Accord (GNA). Turkey is massively supplies this ‘government’ with weapons and equipment. Ankara has also deployed a limited number of own troops and thousands of mercenaries to support the GNA.
In astatement of the official Facebook page, the LNA said that the “Turkish ship loaded with weapons and ammunition that docked this morning at the port of Tripoli was destroyed”. The LNA did not provide details on the attack. However, in a separate development, Brigadier Khaled Al Mahjoub of the LNA told Al-Arabiya that the ship was carrying weapons for armed militias.

Pro-GNA sources have own version of the events, even two. A part of pro-GNA sources is claiming that the LNA strike hit civilian ships and fishing boats. Another part of pro-GNA sources is claiming that the LNA strike hit a depot in the port area. If the Turkish-operated ship was really hit, the GNA and Turkey would contribute massive efforts to hide this fact under the media buzz.

It would be hard for Erdogan to fight in 2 conflicts simultaneously. Even through his proxies. He needs dollars more and more while trying to support Turkish lira at the internal market. Erdogan has to stop conflicts or it will ruin the Turkish lira.

First of all, being Orthodox Christian I do not really understand someone’s bad feelings about traditional Islam and Muslim values. Dialogue is always better than fight. Turkey has it’s own interests like any other country except State Govt puppets, of course. Without balance of interests of all ME countries you can’t ensure the strategic peace in the region. And do not forget that Britain and USA were too busy to bring chaos last 100 years. When a government tries to support it’s own currency by selling dollars on the internal market you can take a loan in one of Western banks on almost 0%, change dollars or euros to the national currency, buy some national stocks or even put that money at some national bank account with 5-10% annual income, then sell the stocks or close the national bank account and change national currency back to the dollars or euros with the stable exchange rates down return the loan back to the western bank. Voila! 10% annual income means 2.5% income per quarter. It’s not so big if you invest 10 000 or even 100 000. But if you invest couple of millions it’s 50 000 of quarter income guaranteed by the foreign government. Not bad as you have negative rates at your country’s bank system.

The ship was NOT hit – proably a storage (fuel) bunker on the quayside.
