The Libyan National Army (LNA) announced in the late hours of July 4 that its Air Defense Force had shot down a warplane that was supporting forces loyal to the Government of National Accord (GNA) southeast of the countries’ capital, Tripoli.
“The air-defenses have shot down an L-39 [warplane] killing its pilot after it took off from the Air Academy in Misrata to bomb the civilians in Tarhunah,” Ahmed al-Mismari, a spokesman for the Libyan National Army (LNA), said in a short press release.
Libyan sources released several photos showing the wreckage of the downed L-39, confirming the LNA’s claims.

The LNA’s Air Defense Force operates at least one Soviet-made 2K12 Kub [SA-6] medium-range air-defense system. The UAE also deployed one Pantsir-S1 short-range air-defense system in the central part of Libya last month.
A day earlier, GNA warplanes killed two civilians and injured four others in area of Sidi Sayih in the outskirt of Tripoli. This incident may have encouraged the LNA to stationed its air-defense systems closer to the capital.
Moe on this topic:
NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can shoot down a mig with 22 .
Is this why US had to use 5 AMRAAM missiles and than 1 sidewinder to shoot one semi operational mig over Yugoslavia?
Well said! Was it really semi operational? In a sentence or two. I don’t like websurfing stuff all the time.
It was. All Yugoslavian Mig 29s of that time were in a condition that they would not be allowed to fly in Russia. Many important system were simply non functional due to spares shortage.
Thanks for that.
First it is spelled “MiG”, not “mig”. Second: it is “.22”, not “22”. Thirdly: it was not a MiG, but a L-39 – an aircraft developed in Czechoslovakia and still produced in today’s Czech Republic. Fourth: I would like to see you shoot down a MiG or a L-39 with a .22. I give you -4 for that troll attempt.
Wish they had that much success under Qaddafi against NATO warplanes.. 0% kill rate in 30 years against first world air forces.
Good job LNA !
There are no good sides in Libya. Haftar is US-CIA groomed and I think the only reason the US has “changed sides” to back him is because they know he is going to win anyway … the Qatar-Turkey supported al qaeda & muslim brotherhood stooges who the US helped get in power are losing their usefulness and on the way out anyway, so the US is simply ditching them. Let’s not forget that none of this destruction and slaughter would have occurred without the US-NATO destruction & murder of Qadaffi in the first place … for all his faults, Qadaffi’s Libya was the most successful and peaceful country in the African continent.
Well said Colin and it is a pity the masses don’t know that. Too dumb, apathetic and venal to do their own homework. So forever sucked in by the powers-that-be.
Haha. Will we find another “Portuguese mercenary” speaking with an American drawl? Lol
I was trying ti find you a video on that, but as a total side issue…. a few snowflakes and some slant counterpart interpretation things in English – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OEehlggPp0
Funny! I liked how thong is used and can see why the Aussies say thong. The sole has thongs attached to it unlike a fully foot-covering shoe. A thong on a woman is a thong of material and a thong is by definition a strip of material .
