The Libyan National Army (LNA) has foiled a large attack by forces loyal the Government of National Accord (GNA) on the key al-Jufra Air Base In central Libya, a spokesman for the army announced in the afternoon of September 13.
In an official statement, Gen. Ahmed al-Mismari said that the army managed to foil the large-scale attack before it even started.
“The army shot down three Turkish drones that attempted to conduct airstrikes on al-Jufra Air Base, targeted a terrorist gathering in Sirte that planned to advance to al-Jufra with 19 vehicles, all of which were destroyed, we targeted another terrorist gathering, consisting of 15 vehicles destroyed in the area of Abu Nujaym, that was planning to advance to the south and we struck the Air Academy in Misrata,” the LNA spokesman said in the statement.
Gen. al-Mismari went on to claim that the failed attack was planned in Turkey and financed by Qatar. Both countries are close allies of the GNA.
LNA supporters released several photos of vehicles supposedly destroyed by the army near Sirte. However, the photos are yet to be verified.
