The Libyan National Army (LNA) announced on October 1 that warplanes of the Libyan Air Force (LAF) carried out a series of airstrikes on Turkish military equipment in the airports of Mitiga and Misrata, east of the country’s capital, Tripoli.
“The army’s intelligence services spotted various positions in the airports of Mitiga and Misrata for the preparation and storage of Turkish drones … This threat was dealt with by the Air Force … 100% of hostile targets were destroyed,” Gen. Ahmed al-Mismari, a spokesman for the LNA, said in a statement.
According to the army’s spokesman, the targets included a hangar and two fortified positions in Mitiga Airport.
Mitiga and Misrata are the main airports of the Government of National Accord (GNA). Turkish combat drones are reportedly operating from both airports.
As usual, the GNA denied that the airstrikes were carried out by the LAF, saying that warplanes of a “foreign state” supporting the LNA was behind the attack on Mitiga and Misrata.
The UAE Air Force (UAEAF) is known to be operating combat drones over Libya to support the LNA. However, there is no evidence suggesting that it was behind the recent airstrikes.
