Gen. Wanis Bukhamada commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Special Forces and the army’s spokesman Gen. Ahmed al-Mismari survived an assassination attempt in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi on July 11.
The two generals and other commanders of the LNA were reportedly attending the funeral of former Special Forces commander Khalifa al-Mismari in the al-Hawari cemetery when a booby-trapped vehicle exploded.
Citing Libyan sources, the UAE-based al-Arabiya TV reported that four people were killed and fifteen others were injured in the explosion. Gen. Bukhamada and Gen. al-Mismari didn’t sustain any injuries.
Few hours after the attack, Gen. al-Mismari held a press conference, in which he accused the Government of National Accord (GNA) of financing terrorist activities in Benghazi.
“Money was paid [by the GNA] to traitors in Benghazi after operations in Tripoli … We do not differentiate between the extremist organizations in Tripoli, al-Qaeda and ISIS,” al-Arabiya quoted al-Mismari as saying.
The LNA stepped up its security measures in Benghazi and its outskirt following the attack. The army’s Commander-in-Chief also ordered all security branches to launch an extensive investigation into the attack.
This failed assassination attempt will likely lead to a major escalation around Tripoli, despite the lack of any evidence linking the GNA to the attack.
very glad he survived! FUCK GNA AND TORKIS!!!!!
What happened and LNA suddenly stopped the efforts to capture Tripoli ? Ok Turkey helped GNA but I don’t think they are so strong… Probably Turkey chooses its opponents to be week and unorganized like Kurds in Afrin .
Gen. al-Mismari unfortunately forgot the most important one, the same source of any international terrorism: behind GNA, ISIS and Al Qaeda there is the Turkey of Erdogan!
