On September 13, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Joint Task Force (JTF) announced that 5 ISIS fighters were killed in clashes in Marawi city.
JTF also announced that the AFP soldiers found two night-vision goggles with dead bodies of ISIS fighters. The AFP said that it didn’t know before that ISIS fighters in Marawi had such systems. Moreover, the AFP announced that it is now working to identify the source of the goggles.
Meanwhile, the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq claimed that ISIS fighters killed 3 fighters of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in an attack in Maguindanao province.
In a related development MILF Peace Implementing Panel Chair Mohagher Iqbal said in an official statement that MILF want to be a part of the rehabilitation of Marawi City.
“We are looking at a role that the MILF can play, a modest role … The MILF is a modest organization so we can only share something based on our capability,” Iqbal said.
Furthermore, the cooperation between the MILF and the Philippine government helped create safe passages for civilians from Marawi to Iligan City and Malabang according to Iqbal.
According to Philippine sources 650 ISIS fighters have been killed in Marawi battle so far, while the AFP has lost 145 soldiers.
