Locals are protesting against the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the village of Al-Mansoura in the province of Raqqah.
According to reports, the protestors are members of the local tribe, al-Buhamis. The tensions have erupted after the SDF has arrested the tribe’s leader.
The SDF is a de-facto Kurdish-dominated group, controlled by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and their political wing – the so-called Democratic Union Party. The PYD and PYD-linked “security forces” are actively working to establish own rule in the SDF-held areas. These efforts lead to tensions with the local Arab population.

Pro government protesters in SDF held regions are routinely fired upon while protesting this is commonplace occurrence with YPG and security forces of the SDF .

Kurds should defend Afrin and Manjib, not acting as an occupation force in Raqqah and Deirezzor. In the end, they will lose everything.
One wonders how the SDF managed to “conquer” so much of eastern Syria from ISIS, when they can’t engage in a single battle to defend Afrin district.
There is a simple answer to that. Airpower. Whoever owns the skies, almost always wins the war. The Kurds owned the air against ISIS, via the USA. Then the kurds got crushed in Afrin because the Turks had the airpower. The Kurds even admit that the airstrikes were overwhelming in Afrin.
So much for the much-touted (by the US/SDF), elected/inclusive “local leadership councils.” What a crock. SDF “rule” east of the Euphrates is going to disintegrate. Factional Kurds have ZERO experience holding together a coalition of different peoples/ethnicities. Heck, they can’t even hold together a coalition of Kurds. The Syrian government does. It’s what it does/has always done. Syria for Syrians. Choose!! (Kurds) Or lose everything.
