Carrier strike group (CSG) is an operational formation of the United States Navy. It is centered on an aircraft carrier and a carrier air wing (CVW) of 65 to 70 aircrafts. It’s composed of roughly 7,500 personnel, an aircraft carrier, at least one cruiser, a destroyer squadron of at least two destroyers and/or frigates. A carrier strike group also, on occasion, includes submarines, attached logistics ships and a supply ship. Carrier strike groups comprise a principal element of U.S. power projection over the world’s oceans.

I think they generally have only 4 deployed . Some are in base for repairs / refits / whatever and the others on rotation. I watch this for when more groups enter a zone as an indication of things to come. eg if one or more were to head for the Gulf then one could expect something happening there soon , or around Nth Korea / China for instance. An early indicator but only an indicator.. There is a website where it is updated monthly but I haven’t been there for quite some time so may have changed. For someone keen they could log and plot each group over time.
Every time a CSG is outside the Persian gulf AKA Iranian missile kill-zone, we could expect an escalation
