Losses Reported After Two Turkish Drone Strikes On SDF-Held Areas In Northeastern Syria (Videos)

On April 20, two Turkish drone strikes targeted areas held by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Syria’s northeastern region.

The first drone strike targeted a building in the northern outskirts of the town of al-Qamishli in the northern countryside of al-Hasakah. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that the building, which is located right next to a hospital, is a center of the SDF’s intelligence. No human losses were reported as a result of the strike.

The second drone strike, which took place four hours later, targeted a vehicle of the SDF as it was moving between the villages of Idiq and Takhtak to the south of the town of Kobane in the northeastern Aleppo countryside.

According to the SOHR, the strike killed two fighters and a commander of the SDF. The monitoring group didn’t provide any further details.

Turkish combat drones has been very active over SDF-held areas in northern and northeastern Syria for the last few months.

On April 1, a drone strike targeted a vehicle on the M4 highway in the northeastern countryside of al-Hasakah, killing a member of the SDF and wounding another. On April 8, three civilians, including a woman, were wounded when a drone strike hit their house in the town of Abu Rasin, which is also located in the northern al-Hasakah countryside. On April 9, a strike hit a position of the SDF border guards on Kabz hill in the northern countryside of al-Hasakah, killing an SDF member and wounded two others.

The SDF refrained from responding to most recent Turkish drone strikes in what appears to be an attempt to prevent further military escalation. The group does not want to give Ankara a pretext to launch a new operation in northern and northeastern Syria.
