The M113 Panzermörser 120 mm mortar carrier has been spotted with the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) for the first time.
On December 17, footage showing service members of the AFU firing at Russian forces from a M113 Panzermörser [mortar tank in German] on an unidentified front in Ukraine surfaced online.
The Panzermörser, which was developed in Germany, is built on the base of an American-made M113 armored personnel carrier and armed with a Finish-made Tampella 120 mm mortar. The system can carry up to 60 mortar rounds, and fire with a range of six to seven kilometers. It can fire five rounds per minute for five minutes or 15 rounds in a minute.
In October, it was announced that Lithuania, a NATO member, will donate undisclosed quantity of M113 Panzermörser mortar carriers to the AFU in response to the ongoing Russian special military operation in Ukraine.
The Lithuanian Land Forces acquired 32 M113 Panzermörser mortar carriers from Germany in 2005 and 2006. Later in 2015, they were modernized in cooperation with Israel.
Ten M113 Panzermörser mortar carriers were reportedly supplied to the AFU in November. It’s unclear if Lithuania is planning to deliver more systems any time soon.
NATO states have supplied Ukraine with hundreds of howitzers, mortars and rocket launchers as well as dozens of counter-battery radars since the start of the Russian special military operation. Despite of this massive support, the AFU is still struggling to match the fire power of the Russian military.

This is not the first time this has been spotted. I saw a video of a flatbed carrying a M113 get neutralized about 2 weeks ago. Was taken out with a drone. In any case the m113 is quite loud. Additionally, even though it’s mobiles, Russia has recently deployed acoustic and non radar based artillery devices. Thr moment 1 round is fired, a computer provides a firing coordinate and a counter fire round is provided. The Russians have been winning the artillery war since day 1. The trenches they have dug are already effective. They have been good trench diggers for years. Kievs forces are likely just buying more time before the inevitable. They know that their chances of victory lessen every day. Only an act of God can save the Nazi regime now.

Ha ha. Thats what it is. Its a mobile heavy mortar unit with only some protection. Name it as coffin or bathtub.
But the unit can move to next postion fast as well as fire many grenades fast. Very good if the enemy try to advance with many soldiers and almost unarmed vehicles.
It takes 3 men to carry an 82mm or 120mm mortar and then another team of men to carry the ammo. Mobility is the key to winning a running artillery duel, and the M113 with its crappy aluminum armour gives you good mobility. It was good in its day, because when the counter battery fire comes in, the armour is sufficient to stop shell fragments. In modern warfare with drones and guided artillery rounds there are other threats but firing from an M113 is better than fighting an artillery duel on foot.
All of Germanistan’s toys can no more stop the complete destruction of rump Ukrapland than they could save naZi Germany back in the day when naZis actually had balls.

The M113 is relic from the Vietnam Era, which wasn’t popular with us troops due to the paper thin armor.
