In recent days, the Russian military sources published several videos showing the destruction of the western M777 howitzers on the front lines. According to the official statements by the Russian Ministry of Defense and the DPR People’s Militia, at least eight howitzers were recently destroyed in the Donbass and other regions in Eastern Ukraine.
On August 21, in the area of the Knyazevka settlement of the Kherson region, two American M777 howitzers were destroyed in military positions of the AFU, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. Later, the video showing the destruction of two M777s by the Russian Uragan MLRS was shared online:
Several howitzers were recently destroyed near the cities of Marganets from where the AFU shell the city of Energodar and the Zaporozhie NPP. According to the Russian MoD, two M777 howitzers were destroyed there on August 23. One howitzer was hit by Russian forces on August 26 and another one was destroyed on August 27.
The foreign equipment is used by the AFU for the attacks on the nuclear power plant, creating the risk of a nuclear disaster. Another target of the howitzers are civilians living in the city of Donetsk and villages nearby which are under control of the DPR.
On August 31, the DPR military officials reported the destruction of another howitzer.
On August 23, the People’s Militia of the DPR claimed the destruction of a M777 howitzer near the town of Kurakhovo deployed 30 kilometers to the west from Donetsk.

The M777 has a maximum rate of fire of seven rounds per minute with a range of up to 40 kilometers when firing Excalibur precision-guided rounds. On the other hand, the Soviet-made Giatsint-B has a range of 30.5 kilometers with regular 152 mm rounds, and up to 40 kilometers with rocket-assisted rounds. The gun can fire up to six rounds per minute.
The US supplied 108, Canada four and Australia six M777 howitzers to Kiev forces to help thwart the Russian special military operation in Ukraine. Kiev also received hundreds of thousands of 155 mm rounds.
The Russian military has already destroyed many of Ukraine’s new-acquired M777 howitzers. Most of them were targeted with artillery.
Ukraine received more than 200 artillery piece from its Western allies over the last few months. Yet, its forces are still outgunned by the Russian military. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged that his forces cannot overcome the Russian military’s advantage in artillery even with all the support from the West.

As most people in my world see it, the ukras get a litle more in then Russian. The ukra artllery stuff also is much better then the Russian kind.

The West has the absurd belief in how miracle weapons alone can singlehandedly alone. If only we can develop the bestest most uber weapon system we will automatically win wars. The Germans had it in WW2 with Tiger tanks and V2 rockets, the US believed that air to air missiles would make dogfighting obsolete in the Vietnam war, smart bombs defeated Saddam in 1991 and now we have stealth and HIMARS. And yet when we supply these wonder weapons to other countries in war they rarely win wars. More often then not they still lose. What wins war is superior strategy, logistics, tactical and operational doctrine. The British smashed through the Hindenburg Line in 1918, unassailable in 1917, using combined arms tactics. The Germans smashed France and cut through Russia like butter using superior doctrine and organization called Blitzkrieg in 1940 and 1941, and got themselves smashed using superior strategy, logistics and operational doctrine in the 2nd half of WW2. The US lost Vietnam because it had inferior strategy, Arab states lost again and again to Israel because the latter had superior tactics and organization. Wonder weapons do not win wars. They never win wars by themselves because weapons do not exist in a vacuum. They exist as part of a military organization using tactics as part of operational doctrine employed to serve a coherent strategy aiming to achieve a political endgoal.
