The Ukrainian media sounded the alarm after the main diver of the country disappeared. Roman Chervinsky, who was blamed to be the leader of the group that undermined Russian Nord Stream gas pipelines, disappeared in Ukraine. LINK
Colonel Chervinsky served in the Ukrainian Counterintelligence Department (5th directorate of the SBU) since 2016, and in 2022 became the commander of one of the units of the Special Operations Forces of Ukraine. Chervinsky was considered the “coordinator” of the sabotage operation against the Russian Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 gas pipelines.
In 2023, Chervinsky was arrester in Kiev. He has been in custody since April 2023.
Colonel Roman Chervinsky led an unsuccessful special operation aimed to hijack a Russian military aircraft. According to investigators, Chervinsky, several military personnel, SBU officers and a civilian IT specialist planned this special operation between April and July 2022. Ukrainian group attempted to “recruit” a Russian pilot. The alleged serviceman of the Russian Aerospace Forces was promised money, new documents and the ‘evacuation’ of his family abroad. In exchange, the Russian officer had to hijack the plane and land it at the Ukrainian military airfield Kanatovo in Kropyvnytskyi.
The hijacking was supposed to take place on July 23, 2022. However, instead of the Russian aircraft, Russian missiles flew to the Kanatovo airfield. As a result of the strike, the commander of a military unit was killed, 17 AFU servicemen were wounded, two fighters of the Ukrainian Air Force were destroyed, and the runway was heavily damaged. The Russian pilot, who was in touch with the Ukrainian SBU, turned out to be officers of the Russian special services.
According to the Ukrainian investigation, Colonel Chervinsky did not coordinate his operation with the leadership of the Main Directorate of Intelligence and the Security Service of Ukraine, which resulted in failure.

Chervinsky was also reportedly responsible for another failed special operation. In 2020, Ukrainian special services attempted to lure a group of fighters of the Russian Wagner PMC to Belarus. According to Ukrainian plan, Russian fighters should fly from Belarus to Istanbul, but the plane should land in Kiev and the Russian fighters would be detained by the Ukrainian special services. The operation failed after the Russians were detained in Minsk by the Belarusian authorities and they were soon sent back to Russia.
As a result, Chervinsky was arrested on charges of abuse of power as a result of the failed operation with the Russian pilot.
On April 19, 2024, Chervinsky’s term of detention in a pre-trial detention center ended; but Ukrainian court did not consider Chervinsky’s case and did not inform when the next hearing would take place. After that, the ex-colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was taken to the Kropyvnytskyi pre-trial detention center. Soon Chervinsky disappeared and nothing is known about him. His lawyer was not allowed to see him.
The Ukrainian media or officials are yet to reveal the mystery of the disappearance of the ex-colonel. Taking into account the harsh illegal methods used by the Ukrainian special services, the man, ‘who knew too much’ and was involved in the international secret operation in the Baltic Sea but was publicly revealed, could be killed by Ukrainian services or released and hidden likely somewhere in Europe.
