The influx of refugees from the Greek islands of the eastern Aegean to the Greek mainland continues. On board of three ferries 4,800 migrants and refugees arrived Monday morning in Piraeus. The Coast Guard announced, reported the dpa. Reporters that had interviewed the refugees said nearly all wanted to go to Western Europe. In the first ten months of this year, more than 600,000 immigrants have come from Turkey to Greece. The majority of them are from Syria.
Since Sunday evening, the French Air Force is flying massive airstrikes in Syria. It is unclear how accurate the strikes are. In the past, the bombing of the Western Allies has not helped the civilian population to feel more secure. The Russians declared that they are hitting targets more accurately. It is not possible to verify if this is true.
It is said that the US Army has inscribed missiles with the slogan “From Paris With Love” – a particularly cynical behavior, given the high probability that these bombs will also hit civilians and likely drive more people out of their home.
Undoubtedly, the new military escalation will drive more people to flight. Meanwhile in Europe the debate on the closure of borders broke out: France calls for controls at all Schengen borders because apparently the bombings in Paris were planned and carried out from Belgium.
