Idlib is becoming a completely untenable proposition and a general collapse is coming very soon. While the progress has been slow, we must remember that Syria’s economy is in tatters due to US and EU sanctions on every conceivable commodity and trade opportunity. That is why SAA only makes short, rapid advances that it can hold onto long term. But the future looks good. Apparently the Americans have known for some time that under Golan and Idlib, as well as Deir Ezzor, there are massive untapped oil deposits which they identified from data provided by a Synthetic Aperture Radar satellites. Suddenly it makes sense why all the three areas of Syria were such a focus for the jihadi proxies: Idlib, Daraa/Golan and Deir Ezzor were supposed to become independent petro monarchies, more or less directly under zionist control. Nice little plan, eh?

You’re not completely wrong. But I think you’re linking facts to unrelated events here. Not everything is always subject to a grand design. Just to illustrate. 1) Israel has occupied the Golan Heights since 1967. The Israelis never wanted to give them back, main reasons for this: Military/strategic and restrictive access to water resources. And never would they let any “petro monarchies” claim this territory. 2) Which places were frequented by terrorists, for how long and how strongly, was due to various military decisions of the Syrian government as well as external factors that were not centrally controlled. 3) With “Synthetic Aperture Radar satellites” no oil reserves can be discovered, this technology does not replace the classical drilling. 4) the sanctions of the EU and the USA have nothing to do with the speed of the offensive, an essential point for the many ceasefires was the cautious diplomacy of Russia towards Turkey. 5) the oil deposits on the Golan heights were discovered around 2011, at least to the extent that is now often (exaggeratedly) claimed. The plan to dismantle Syria has been aggressively planned for more than 20 years, and has been implemented since 2009.

The plan to dismantle Syria has been planned since 1983, https://www.veteranstoday.com/2019/09/19/cia-top-secret-file-the-us-war-in-syria-planned-since-1983/ The Golan deposits were discovered pre 2006, look up Genie Oil., and Aflex. Problem is they might need to be fracked, which would poison the fresh water. # 3 MDA, or MacDonald Dettiwiler – Maxar satellite imaging does give fairly accurate information. Probabilities, but does not replace drilling, as you said, but just off shore the French claimed there were “large” oil and gas fields. With that in mind, it would not be surprising if Idlib held underground valuables. The future does look good, with the jihadists gone Syrians will be able to rebuild.

MichaH

I am really wondering why there are no new claims of gas-attacks, the White Helmets are still well-funded. And don’t overestimate the range of a potential new OPCW scandal, for example, I am German, here in Germany there is not one single newspaper or media corporation reporting on wikileaks and the OPCW-Whistleblower, not one. Alternative media sources do, but not many, with a short range of consumers.
