US have already said in no uncertain term that they will not support any bid for Independence from the Kurds in the region ..

As Assads regime has stated it is debatable, Russia favours it, there seems to be no real problem there as far as I can see. The dispute will be what powers will remain central and what powers will go to the federal states.
As far as the KRG is concerned, I think in the end there will be a compromise.
Stage 1. A free referendum in “disputed areas” in accordance with article 140 of the Iraqi constitution, joining those areas to the KRG Stage 2. A confederation of three (Shia arab, sunni arab and KRG) sovereign states for the duration of 10 to 15 years. Stage 3. A referendum in each of the states whether to continue or not after 8 or 13 years. Not continuing meaning full independence. A choice for all three parts.
KRG and Northern Syria can have (in)formal relations on a regional level.
