A brief overview of the recent developments in Nagorno-Karabakh:
- On November 29, Russian peacekeepers established a special-purpose medical field hospital in Stepanakert;
- On November 29, Russia transferred military equipment and ammunition to Karabakh using via the Yalama-Baku-Yevlakh-Barda railway in Azerbaijan;
- As of November 30, Russia reported that more than 24 hectares of land and about 8 kilometers of roads were cleared from mines and IEDs and 750 explosive objects were found and destroyed;
- As of November 30, 23,514 displaced persons have returned to their homes in Karabakh with the assistance of Russian peacekeepers.
Maybe Southfront can write an article on air defense in the age of drones. Much of the comments I have seen about the Armenian loss where on the line that it should have deployed more systems like Pantsir. But I wonder whether that would be really effective. You would still have a limited number of expensive installations that a smart use of cheap drones might have eliminated. Why not instead use portable SAMs like the Stinger?
Drones do not have any chance of survival against good air defenses. Nothing in the world is more deadly than Russian Tor (short) and BUK (medium range) systems when it comes to heavy drones (used in Armenia). Pantsir is good but Tor is better. No heavy or semi-heavy drones can survive them. Tor and BUK missile turn round 80 to 90% percent efficacy per missile against super fast maneuverable jets and against super slow drones efficacy is 100%. EVERY missile launched has 100% probability to kill drone. Drones have ZERO chance against Tor and BUK systems (together) even in swarms. MANPAD’s (like Stinger) are limited because none goes above 5000 meters and Turk and Israeli drones fly on 6000 m to stay above, out of range. Stinger tops at 3800 meters (only) upwards and 4500 distance and on top it is US weapon (Armenia has only Russian MANPAD’s I think)
% stated is for 2 missiles engaging a target? , but is never 100%. :/ Both Tor and Buk systems do add a lot more quality independent radars to the situation. One more note about MANPADS, the Israeli Harop drones and maybe others would be very hard to acquire visually if it is at altitude. The Azeris first priority where the AD radars on the first days of the conflict.
You didn’t even read my comment properly! I have excluded MANAPDS because all drones were usually flying on 6000 meters. So what the hell are you talking bout ?!?!
% stated is for 2 missiles engaging a target Yes, but they were talking about maneuverable supersonic jets and not slow flying drones. Turk drones sped is only few hundred km per hour and their maneuverability is ridiculous! Why “Fantasy Land”?! How can you compare Mach 2+ jet with slow flying drone as if they are the same thing when jets fly much higher, much-much faster and are much more maneuverable? What is the speed of that Harop and is it stealth?* If it is not stealth, doesn’t fly high and fast why is it problem to take it down do tell me? I am 100% sure that for taking down Turk drones that are used mostly by Azerbaijan takes single missile only.
